ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2024 / 2025

Its March, so its back to 3pm kick-offs, excepting for cup matches of which there is still plenty to play for, last Saturday, there were twenty-four scheduled league matches and none resulted in a draw, can’t remember when that last happened!

The first semi-final of the Peter Andrews Charity Cup was held and Premier Division, Sudbury Sports overcame Division One, Dovercourt Rovers, in the final they will play either Gas Recreation or current holders, Great Bentley, which match is next weekend.

The Reserve Knock-Out Cup has also reached the semi-stage and Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves beat Roman Rovers Reserves, and in the final they will play either Earls Colne Reserves or Silver End United Reserves, that match is also next weekend.

The prestigious Knock-Out Cup has also progressed, in the final third round tie, Brightlingsea Town overcame Earls Colne after a penalty shoot-out the winners will now play Stanway Pegasus Reserves later this month. Two quarter-final ties were also played with Barnson beating Belle Vue Social by four goals to nil, and Great Bentley beating The Rodings by five goals to two.

There were just two Premier Division matches, leaders, Kings Park Rangers won by the only goal at Alresford Colne Rangers and Thorpe got back to winning ways beating Tiptree Heath by three goals to nil.

Leaders, Gas Recreation beat Little Oakley Reserves to extend their lead in Division One, Gosfield United beat Lawford Lads to move up to third place, at the bottom, Hedinghams United beat Bradfield Rovers who drop to bottom place, below Cavendish who lost to Cornard United Reserves meaning those teams change places.

Six matches were played in Division Two, Tavern stay top after beating Stillwaters, fourth placed Prettygate lost to fifth placed Earls Colne Reserves, there were also wins for Dedham Old Boys, Great Bentley Reserves, Great Bradfords and Roman Rovers.

Division Three had six matches, leaders Hatfield Peverel Reserves won on the road, (three for Arnold) getting their revenge against Great Bentley “A” who had inflicted their only league defeat in the first match of the season. Barnston Reserves, Silver End United, Tiptree Heath Reserves, Tiptree Jobserve and Wormingford Wanderers all won.

Once again, teams in Division Four found the net no fewer than forty-four times across six matches, leading the way were Harwich & Parkeston “A” who scored fourteen, (three for Eade and five for Geen) but they remain second on goal difference from Silver End United Reserves. Tendring Borough (three for Coyle) beat Brooklands to stay third and in contention for promotion, Boxted Lodgers stay fourth after beating Hedinghams United Reserves, Bradfield Rovers Reserves found the net eight times, West Bergholt Reserves, five times (three for Rose) and Mersea Island three times.
