Essex County Junior Cup – Round Three
Tiptree Jobserve FC v Stanway Pegasus FC
Tiptree Jobserve welcome Raymond Turner & Ian Booth’s Stanway Pegasus to Thurstable School in the Esssx Junior Cup Round Three. Tiptree currently sit in 4th in the Border Division One while Stanway are sitting top of Division Two with a 100% record. Could the Division Two side defeat a strong Tiptree side and progress to the Quarter Finals?
The home side got us underway in Tiptree with today’s game being played on astro turf. The first clear cut chance of the game fell to Pegasus. Harry Diplock played a ball over the top towards Eldon Craig, Josh Chapman for Jobserve came across to intercept but horribly miss-timed it and the ball fell kindly to Luke Payne who, on the edge of the box, shot at goal but his effort went wide.
The hosts then had a great chance to go ahead but Pegasus defended well. George Ponta with a long ball forward from a free kick saw Dean Merrett flick on a clever header into the path off Kevin Barham who took a good touch and drove into the box. Barham was about to pull the trigger before Joey Davies came across with a well-timed sliding tackle to deny him.
With the game becoming very physical, Pegasus looked to snatch a goal and Josh Dillon had an effort from the halfway line which caught goalkeeper Ponta out but his effort went over the bar. Liam Whitehead for Jobserve then had an effort but again, he too fired over the bar from about 25 yards.
The first half didn’t have as many clear cut chances as hoped but Stanway almost went ahead on 33 minutes. A great interception from Joey Davies meant he instantly looked up and floated a lovely ball over the top of the defence towards Eldon Craig who then got away from the Jobserve defender. He looked up and played a ball across the box towards Dillon who came rushing in and fired at goal but the Jobserve keeper got down low and pushed it away for a corner kick.
With a couple of minutes left of the first half remaining, Pegasus were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Harry Allison stepped over it and delivered a ball to the back post which was met by the head of Sam Clark but he headed over the bar!
HT: Tiptree Jobserve 0-0 Stanway Pegasus
A very poor first half with regards to both teams finishing in all honestly. The second half kicked off and Pegasus had a great chance to go ahead. Eldon Craig looked up on the edge of the box, laid a ball off to Dillon who fired at goal but once again, could only find the wrong side of the post. The substitution of Ben Parkin at half time gave Pegasus a big threat going forward and it almost paid off. A long ball over the top of the Jobserve defence was latched onto by Parkin who controlled well and unleashed a magnificent effort at goal which just skimmed over the bar. The hosts then had a great chance to go ahead against the run of play. A ball was played across the box towards Barham who on the half volley fired at goal but once again his effort went over the bar!
Parkin continued to be a threat and cause Jobserve problems. He almost became a provider for the opening goal. He picked up the ball with his back to goal, turned and played a ball across the box to Craig who fired at goal but a fantastic block by Sam Bevis kept the score at 0-0. Pegasus then had an effort from Joey Davies which was well caught by the Jobserve keeper.
Tiptree’s Lewis Irones had his effort well caught by Simpson but on 73 minutes the deadlock was finally broken and it was the visitors who went ahead! An Eldon Craig corner was really well delivered and it met the head of star man Dillon who powered a header in to give Pegasus the lead!
Tiptree Jobserve 0-1 Stanway Pegasus!
With the visitors ahead, the hosts Tiptree were searching for a goal to keep themselves in the cup. Marty Griffen sent a volley over the bar and thanks to some solid defensive work from the Pegasus team, Tiptree were unable to create any real clear cut chances. Stanway comfortably sealed out the win and are through to the Quarter Finals.
FT: Tiptree Jobserve 0-1 Stanway Pegasus
A great result for Raymond Turner & Ian Booth’s Stanway who progress to the Quarter Finals of the Essex Junior Cup. Tiptree didn’t create as much as they would have hoped but best of luck to them for the rest of there campaign. All the best to Stanway in the next round and for the rest of there season!
