Great Bentley FC Reserves v Tiptree Engaine FC Reserves

Today’s game was my last game off the season, a win or draw for the hosts will see them secure 2nd place and promotion to Division Ttwo with one game remaining, a win for the visitors would see them end the season in 4th place. Will Bentley secure promotion or would Engaine grab a top 4 finish? The home side got us underway at Bentley Green, on 3 minutes Great Bentley had a great chance to take an early lead when some miscommunication at the back for Tiptree saw Bentley’s Louie French beat Tiptree keeper Gary Merchant to the ball, the loose ball fell to Steve Burt, who on the edge of the box fired at goal but fired just past the post. 2 minutes later and Tiptree almost responded with a goal when some good work by Ryan Hart saw him lay off Richard Hutchinson who from 30 yards fired at goal but he’s effort bounced off the bar and out for a goal kick. Great Bentley then went up the other end and almost took the lead when a Tom Gray ball fell to Jake Vaughan who on the edge of the box, controlled down, drove into the box and fired at goal but fired just past the post. Ben Reynolds for Tiptree then had a free kick fired over the bar but on 20 minutes the deadlock was broken, and it was the hosts who took the lead, Jake Vaughan with a good ball down the line which Tiptree defender Charlie Prow looked to shield out, but Louie French got a well-timed sliding tackle and won the ball, looked up and found Aran Yarwood on the edge of the box who got the ball out his feet and fired into the bottom left corner!

8 minutes later and Great Bentley doubled their lead, Jake Vaughan with a good run into space and from 30 yards fired at goal but he’s effort was low and goalkeeper Gary Merchant failed to save and the ball ended up in the bottom right corner!

Jake Vaughan continued to cause problems for the Tiptree defence and he beat two men and got into the box before squaring too Steve Burt on the edge of the box whose effort went wide. We then had a horrible clash of heads which saw Bentley striker Louie French get taken to hospital because of his vision, I wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
Play resumed and substitute Sam Winney got sent through on goal 1 on 1 but Gary Merchant came out and made himself big to make a crucial save.
We also had another horrible head injury but this time to Tiptree defender Richard Hutchinson who ended up cracking his head open resulting in a lot of blood, I wish him also all the best and a speedy recovery.

HT: Great Bentley FC Reserves 2-0 Tiptree Engaine FC Reserves

The visitors got us underway for the second half and started the better and came close when Ben Reynolds had a shot from the edge of the box but hiss effort didn’t trouble Jake Allwood.
On the 59th minute the hosts had a 3rd and great ball into Aaron Clifton on the edge of the box, Clifton took a touch out his feet before placing his shot into the bottom right corner past Merchant and into the back of the net!

The visitors then pulled one back on 64 minutes, Aaron Collier picking the ball up 30 yards out and firing at goal, taking a slight deflection on its way before going over Allwood and into the back of the net!

Great Bentley looked to seal this game once and for all and came close when a excellent ball into the box by Archie Herbert saw Aaron Clifton at the back post divert towards goal but he’s effort was well saved by Merchant.
Into the last 10 minutes and Bentley had another good chance to go 4-1 up, Sam Winney sent through on goal got into the box looked up and fired at goal but fired straight at Merchant. Merchant straight away looked to counter attack with a drop kick up to Collier who on the half way line let the ball bounce before firing on the half volley at goal, on target, with a horrible bounce, Allwood misjudged the bounce and the ball went into the back of the net.

With a minute remaining Tiptree were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box, Aaron Collier stepped up and fired a low powerful shot at goal, but Jake Allwood got down well to make up for his mistake and get Bentley the 3 points.

FT: Great Bentley FC Reserves 3-2 Tiptree Engaine FC Reserves

A fantastic result for Bentley who secure 2nd place and promotion to Division Two, Tiptree end the season in 5th. I wish both injured players a speedy recovery with their head injuries. For me, this is my last report of the season. Onto on 2019/20!
