ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 06/05/2023

Where do we start, well the much anticipated, match between Dunmow Town and Tiptree Heath was played on Wednesday evening, simple odds, a Dunmow win would secure the Premiership title with Tiptree Heath as Runners-Up, Dunmow Town kept their nerve winning by four goals to one.

Gas Recreation FC Reserves followed up their Division Five success with another trophy when beating Great Bentley FC Reserves in the Reserve Knock-Out Cup on Bank Holiday Monday.

Also, on Monday a welcome win for West Bergholt FC whilst Barnston and Dedham Old Boys shared the points.

Tuesday evening saw Dovercourt Rovers FC secure the Division Two title meaning a consecutive promotion for the progressive Club, Colne Athletic also won again in a feisty affair in the Premier Division. In Division Three, Gas Recreation beat Prettygate to maintain their title challenge and Frinton & Walton maintained third spot beating Sporting Rebels. In Division Four, Roman Rovers won to remain second and they were due to play leaders High Roding on Saturday.

Lastly, also on Wednesday, a rare win for bottom Club Tollesbury.

And, so to Saturday, in the Premier Division there were home wins for Chelmsford City Reserves, White Notley and Barnston whilst Alresford Colne Rangers secured a fine away win at Earls Colne.

In Division One, pride of place goes to Silver End United, they secured top spot when beating Cavendish, three more goals for leading scorer Gage and they still have two matches to play, with Brightlingsea Town finishing as runners-up. Thorpe Athletic eked out a solitary goal win which gave them a third placed finish against Tiptree Jobserve who finish fourth.

Fourth placed Tavern won at third placed Boxted Lodgers and either of these teams could still finish as Division Two Runners-Up, much will depend on the final match between champions Dovercourt Rovers and second placed Mersea Island. White, with four goals helped his team, Hatfield Peverel Reserves overcome Wormingford Wanderers.

Division Three saw two home wins for Great Bentley Reserves and Prettygate against Flitch United and Brantham Athletic “A” respectively.

There were four matches in Division Four, top team, High Roding visited second placed Roman Rovers and won by five goals to two to settle the Division title with both teams awarded their trophies by League Treasurer, Brian Reed. Elsewhere Cavendish Reserves hit nine, three for Wiffen, against Tendring Athletic, Lawford Lads Reserves overcame Kelvedon Social whilst Hedinghams United and Ramsey & Mistley shared six goals.

Finally, in Division Five, two of the competition’s new teams played each other, Brooklands getting the better of Assington Stanley.
