06/11/2021 – REPORT – Tiptree Jobserve FC versus Coggeshall United FC Reserves

DIVISION ONE.

TIPTREE JOBSERVE FC:           2.       COGGESHALL UNITED FC RESERVES:        1.

Date:               Saturday 06^th November 2021.                     Venue:             Florence Park, Tiptree.

            Early kick-Off’s from now on then, traffic congestion around Colchester, a high tide down Haven Road prompting a detour and slow journey behind traffic eventually got me to Florence Park, Tiptree where the fourth placed, home team, Tiptree Jobserve FC, were due to play eleventh placed Coggeshall United FC Reserves. The home team have always done well in Division One, this season under the management of Adam Frost, but can’t progress to the Premier Division due to ground constraints. This season they have lost four games in what has become a competitive Division, at least down to sixth place, last week they drew with Belle Vue Social FC, the first points they had dropped. Today’s visitors have “huffed and puffed” so far, two wins and seven defeats in what new Manager, Sean Hiskey described as a challenging introduction to management, and he bemoaned the fact that he has yet to field the same team from any previous matches. They looked a young team as well so this could be a big test and looking back at earlier season results, they lost to the hosts by three goals to two on the opening day of the season back in mid-August.

            Today’s referee was Keith Mitchell, a boarding school colleague of mine from the late sixties, not sure who has the most, grey hair, but today on a windswept pitch he would be assisted by Club Assistants who did a good job.

            Coggeshall United FC Reserves kicked-off but Dumitru lost possession and Tiptree Jobserve FC quickly pushed forward with Gregory setting Monk away and his shot stung the hands of keeper, Sleiman who parried, the ball away with defender David, chesting the ball back to his keeper. This was a bright start from the home team but when the visitors cleared the ball their targeted outlet was the left side where Nwankwo looked a tricky prospect, strong on the ball, a decent turn of pace and a good left foot, his battle with defender Andrew would be interesting. When Nwankwo burst down the left side feeding the ball into North who delayed his shot allowing Andrew to put in a clean tackle on the edge of the penalty area. On the right side Mabugu sent in a cross to North whose lobbed effort flew straight to keeper, Williams standing on his goal-line. Eight minutes in and the visitors scored, not sure they had read the script here but a decent effort it was, Nwankwo raced down the left side evaded tackles from Andrew and Barham to slide the ball across the six-yard box to SAM NORTH who side-footed home with ease at the far post. This early set-back meant that Tiptree Jobserve FC had to play football to work around a stubborn Coggeshall United FC Reserves defence, not always pretty defending but it was effective! Flatts fouled Curtis in the centre-circle, Adams took the free-kick finding North, but Barham used his experience to cover and defend that chance. The home reverted to basic tactics, keep the ball, pass, and move and work your way up the pitch.

            On fifteen minutes Whaymand fouled Kibblewhite twenty yards out but Flatts placed the free-kick way over the players and the goal, no danger there, a wasted opportunity as the home team had pushed their tall players forward. A mix-up in defence by Final and Whaymand led to a corner kick, Flatts took the kick and defender Whaymand was relieved when the ball struck the near post and back into play to be cleared up-field. A strong run through half-way by Adams set up Nwankwo who tried to get past Barham, he had done it earlier, but this time Barham read the situation well. The persistence of the home eventually paid off on twenty-one minutes, from a throw-in, Andrew rifled a low cross into the penalty area, defender Final had a shy at the ball but missed and TOMMY GREGORY swept the ball home with his right foot, from ten yards out, giving keeper, Sleiman no chance to save. A free-kick taken from half-way by Barham drifted high and wide then Flatts over-hit another free-kick after defender Whaymand had scythed down Kibblewhite on the edge of the penalty area. A dribble forward by Flatts had the Coggeshall United FC Reserves defence back-pedalling but when the low cross came in, Lindsay contrived to totally miss a ball that was literally laid on a plate for him!

            With thirty minutes gone a fine team move from the hosts, starting from keeper, Williams to Lindsay, Wiggett, Barham to Monk then Flatts to Gregory who set up Griffin who rifled the ball over the cross-bar. Coggeshall United FC Reserves also persisted and defended well for longer periods then breaking forward with Carter and Curtis starting the attacks looking for North and Nwankwo to spring forward, but they found Wiggett and Barham in resolute mood. Adams fouled Kibblewhite on the left side, Barham took this free-kick finding Monk in the thick of the bodies in the penalty area but his glancing header drifted wide.          

HALF-TIME:    1 – 1

            Tiptree Jobserve FC re-started this match, the afternoon was getting colder, and the sun had dipped below the horizon, my hands needed some warming up as the home team went on the offensive looking for another goal but a throw-in from Carter found Nwankwo whose shot flew straight to keeper, Williams. Flatts was bullied off the ball by Nwankwo but having won the ball he misplaced his pass and several more incidences like that followed in a disjointed first few minutes of the second half. Barham had initially pushed forward from his defensive role and he and North were both rebuked by the referee for an incident after a foul had been given when Carter impeded Flatts. Coggeshall United FC Reserves thought they had a good shout for a penalty when Barham challenged Nwankwo inside the penalty area, to me it looked like a dive, so did Barham, but the referee had seen the incident, rightly ignoring the appeals and play continued. Carter sent Mabugu away, he raced past Lindsay but placed his shot far too high over the cross-bar. A strong run forward from Griffin from the half-way line to twenty-five yards out when he tried a shot at goal which failed to trouble keeper, Sleiman.

            The first fifteen minutes of this second half had been poor fare to be honest, disjointed, misplaced passes and tackles but Tiptree Jobserve FC created the best chance just past the hour mark, Andrew, found Flatts, who crossed to Oakley who fired over the cross-bar from just outside the penalty area. Andrew found some pace and trickery to work his way forward from defence sending a searching cross-field ball to Kibblewhite who found defender Whaymand in no mood to concede space to allow a cross from the left side. Kibblewhite then gained a corner off Adams, taken by Gregory to Andrew whose far post header bounced once before being snaffled up by keeper, Sleiman. Another fine run forward by Andrew should have created a chance but the unmarked Gregory side-footed the ball wide from closer range at the near post. With twenty-five minutes remaining Tiptree Jobserve FC replaced Kibblewhite with Young and Captain, Monk was dropping back to start more urgent thrusts forward for the home team. Two minutes later and Coggeshall United FC Reserves replaced Curtis with Redley following which David sent a long ball forward for Redley to chase but Andrew thwarted any danger as Nwankwo threatened. A shot from the unmarked North should have seen a goal but the young forward snatched at the opportunity and the home team broke forward as Griffin sent Oakley away, but defender Final made a timely challenge to concede a corner. Flatts took the corner finding the head of Barham but keeper Sleiman made a timely interception a few yards out, and the home team kept up their attacks with Griffin making a strong run forward to find Flatts who found himself surrounded by defenders and nowhere to go.

            On seventy-five minutes Tiptree Jobserve FC replaced Oakley and Flatts with Williamson and Scott whilst Coggeshall United FC Reserves made their final changes replacing Whaymand and Mabugu with Cousins and Akinlolu. Barham found time to get forward working his way to the left side before sending in a low cross that both Wiggett and Gregory contrived to miss allowing keeper, Sleiman to collect. The only caution of the match was correctly meted out on eighty minutes when Carter charged into the back of Andrew just on the corner of the penalty area, Barham took the kick with Final heading clear. From a cross from Griffin, Scott was caught off-side, and with just six minutes remaining the home team scored, Barham, once again was allowed to drift over to the left side and from his excellent cross JUDE SCOTT rose to head a fine goal from around the penalty spot with the keeper given no chance by the placement of the ball. The final minutes became a bit frantic as both sides still pushed forward and only solid defending from both teams kept the score-line unchanged.

FULL TIME:     2 – 1.

            Despite the windy conditions this was a decent match to watch, both teams showed a lot of endeavour, its back to the drawing board for Coggeshall United FC Reserves who drop one place to twelfth, whilst Tiptree Jobserve FC consolidate fourth place albeit by having played more games than other teams.

            For my weekly “Star Player”, for the visitors, Final and Carter defended well putting their bodies in where it hurts, Curtis and Adams did well in midfield whilst North and Nwankwo tried their level best against a solid home defence. For the home team, defensively, Andrew, Barham, Wiggett and Lindsay looked comfortable, up-front Gregory looked slightly subdued but took his goal well, it was the midfield that won the day though. Wide players Kibblewhite and Oakley were used to good effect but centrally, Griffin and Flatts alongside Captain, Monk did the dirty work the later helped to change the pattern of the game when he dropped back to break up play then instigate attacks from all areas, so he gets the vote this week.

MATCH NOTIFICATIONS

Fixture Secretaries of Clubs are required to notify all match details, date, venue, kick-off time, colours etc, to their opposition and any appointed official/s, at least FIVE days before the match.

CUP TIES

There will be NO requirement for “Extra-Time” to be played in Cup Matches, if scores are level at the end of “normal time” the match will proceed directly to penalty kicks.

SUBSTITUTES

The ESBFL continues to allow FIVE SUBSTITUTES to be named before kick-off but only “THREE SUBSTITUTES” may be allowed to participate.

Note:

In Essex County Cups (Premier & Junior) the Rule allows FIVE SUBSTITUTES to be named and those FIVE SUBSTITUTUES may be used on a “Roll-On / Roll-Off” basis.

TEAM SHEETS

Team Sheets should be shown or sent to the Referee and the Opposition team either by text, email etc

The BLUE “League Copy” of the Team Sheet should be sent by First Class Post to reach Mick Willmore by the Thursday after a Saturday match, this is the ONLY item of correspondence that is required by post.

RESULTS REPORTING

Rule 21(B)

BOTH Clubs shall notify/SMS the result of each Competition Match to the Competition within 30 minutes of the finish of the match. This will include Football Association and County Football Association matches. The results of all League and Cup matches in the Competition should be reported by the FA Full-Time “SMS” (text) System. Failure to comply with this Rule will result in a fine in accordance with the Fines Tariff.

FA FULL-TIME

The Referees marks, team, players, substitutes, goal scorers, red / yellow cards, and sin-bin, etc MUST be entered to FA Full-Time by the end of the Tuesday following a Saturday match (ie 48 hours after any match). Failure to complete FAFT correctly and on time WILL incur a League Fine/s.

DISCIPLINE

Since the start of the season there have been 30+ players dismissed and over 400 cautions, there have also been several incidences of misconduct towards players, Match officials, members of the public and county officials. These are situations the ESBFL Management feel very strongly about, and the statistics make poor reading, the ECFA will deal with all these cases as deemed appropriate but bear in mind these actions can be very costly both for players and your, Clubs.

WHOLE GAME SYSTEM (“WGS”)

All Club Secretaries should check “WGS” on a regular basis, if you don’t, the ECFA levy a fine (25%) for late acknowledgements and payments of fines and the Club could be put into a “SINE-DIE” situation meaning they cannot play until those debts are cleared.

Club Secretaries are also responsible for adding the matches missed by players who have been suspended.

Whilst the ESBFL regularly reviews the whole Club contents on “WGS” it is not their responsibility to monitor failures by Member Clubs to follow basic procedure/s.

REFRESHMENTS

Rule 20A

Refreshments for BOTH teams and Match Officials MUST be provided by the home Club at half time unless these are declined before the game. Clubs in default shall be fined.
