08/12/2018 – REPORT – Shrub End United FC versus Gosfield United FC

Essex and Suffolk Border League Division Three

Shrub End United FC v Gosfield United FC

Shrub End Utd Welcomed a very much inform Gosfield United side to Shrub End. The Visitors currently top of the table and are enjoying some fantastic form off late. Shrub End on the other hand are in 5th and a win today will see them put pressure on the top 4.

The away side got us underway but it was the hosts who were almost ahead on 6 minutes, a free kick on the edge of the box saw Robert Taylor step up, he ran up and struck a fantastic effort at goal which was missed by everyone and hit the back post and unfortunately for Shrub End came back out into play and cleared. The visitors then had a great chance of their own, Josh Green receiving the ball on the half way line floated a fantastic ball over to Jake Gilder who controlled down well inside the box but fired his effort over the bar.
The deadlock was then broken on 18 minutes and it was the visitors who were ahead, Tom Doughty with a corner which was cleared at the front post but only as far as Bobby Pike who first time delivered back into the box, Shrub End Keeper Fisher came off his line to clear but horribly scuffed his clearance and the ball fell kindly to Alex Greaves who tapped into an empty net to give the away side the lead.

1 then become 2 in minutes for Gosfield, Jake Gilder picking the ball up on the halfway line, he got past Spurgeon and then took it past Harrington and was suddenly in behind, Oliver Fisher came rushing off his line, Gilder opened up and fired at goal but a great defensive block by Daniel Dunne who slid across but unfortunately for Shrub End, the ball fell kindly to Gilder who tapped into an empty net.

Gosfield then straight away went and made it 3-0, Josh Green with a ball over the top too Jake Gilder who controlled down well over the far left, Fisher then came off his line and Gilder calmly drilled a low shot into the back off another empty net.

Shrub End continued to fight and look for a way back into this game and game close, Robert Taylor getting down the by-line crossed in a great ball which fell to Ben Murphy who got the ball out his feet and fired at goal but a great save to his near post by Chris Hobster kept Gosfield 3-0 up.
Gosfield then went 4-0 up with an outstanding goal, Andy Turner picking the ball up 35 yards out, controlled down well and turned and hit a high strike which went straight past Fisher and into the right hand, side of the goal, a fantastic goal.

Andy Turner then straight away grabbed his 2nd and Gosfield’s 5th, Josh Green with a ball down the line to Turner who picked it up down the far left, he ran into the box and calmly slotted away into the bottom left corner to give Gosfield a 5 goal, lead margin.

Shrub End then had a goal back just before half time, a great ball to the edge of the box to Robert Taylor who on the volley fired into the bottom left corner.

With the goal the Referee Andrew French blew for Half Time.

Shrub End got us underway for the second half and were looking to grab an early goal and almost did, Alex Curtis winning the ball and playing a great ball to Ryan Amass who fired at goal but Chris Hobster with another fantastic save to deny Shrub End a 2nd.
Shrub End were then reduced to 10 men and Gosfield took advantage of the extra man straight away, Alex Greaves with a great run down the by-line crossed, Fisher punched out but only as far as Tom Doughty who came in and fired home for Gosfield’s 6th.

Shrub End then had a free kick on the edge of the box in which Alex Curtis fired low but Chris Hobster once again made a good low save to deny Shrub End.
Bobby Pike then went close from a corner which was well saved by Fisher, but Gosfield shortly after had a 7th, Jake Gilder picking up the ball on the edge of the box placed a ball to Alex Greaves who came across and fired home for the 7th on 68 minutes.

Gosfield then had a 8th on 74 minutes, a long ball over the top was over hit and went straight to Fisher, Liam Bowman went and put pressure on, Fisher then spilled the catch and Bowman had an empty net to fire into.

8 then quickly became 9 for Gosfield, Gilder with a fantastic run to the edge of the box, looked up and played a ball out wide to Bowman who fired a great shot at goal which was spilled by Fisher and Greaves was there to fire home for his hat thick and Gosfield’s 9th.

Gosfield then hit 10 for the first time this season, Liam Bowman causing problems for Shrub End, again drove into the box and squared it to Josh Green who fired into the net to grab Gosfield’s 10th. And with that the Referee blew up for Full Time.

Great result for Gosfield who go 4 points clear at the top of Division Three. Bad day at the office for Shrub End. Mistakes in the end cost Shrub End but credit to Gosfield who were brilliant all afternoon.

Was very hard to pick a man of the match but with a hat thick and 1 assist Greaves gets it.
