West Bergholt FC Reserves v Gas Recreation FC Reserves
West Bergholt Reserves welcomed Rob Robertson’s Gas Recreation Reserves to the Lorkin Daniel Ground on this Saturday afternoon. Gas Reserves started the game sitting in 12th while Bergholt sat in 9th. Can the away side win the local derby and pick up a big 3 points?
The away side got us underway and the deadlock was quickly broken on 2 minutes by the home side. Jack Thurston delivered a great ball into the box which met the head of Tom Halls past goalkeeper Matt Murray into the bottom right corner.

The away side responded really well to going down and were almost level 3 minutes later. Reece Doig with a fantastic ball over the top of the Bergholt defence found the run of Ben Murphy. Murphy went through 1 on 1 but shockingly sliced his shot wide.
On 9 minutes Bergholt almost went 2-0 up. A long ball down the line met the run of Gavin Hannah, Hannah got past his man and from the bye-line crossed in a low ball. The ball was cleared but only as far as Tom Halls who’s first effort was blocked up before the rebound required a fantastic hand by Murray to keep the score at 1-0.
Daniel Beeson then went close with an effort from the edge of the box which just went wide of the post.
But on 23 minutes, Beeson hit the back of the net and got Gas back on level terms. Matt Gosney with a corner into the box was cleared straight back to him. Gosney then delivered back in and the ball fell kindly to Daniel Beeson who, on the edge of the box, fired an effort into the bottom left corner!

Daniel Keeble then went close with an effort from 30 yards which went just past the post.
Keeble once again caused a problem for Gas when he picked the ball up and turned his man but once again he fired his shot wide. And with that the referee Andrew French blew up for half time.

The home side got us underway for the second half and were almost 2-1 up straight away. Another brilliant corner by Jack Thurston met the head of Alex Brand whose header fell kindly to Chris Edin who volleyed at goal but was denied by a great diving side by Matt Murray which kept the score level.
Kyle Binns caused problems for the Bergholt right hand side all game, using his pace and he did exactly that when he got down the line and squared a ball to Murphy who fired at goal but his effort rolled kindly into the hands off Andrew Mitson.
The Gas continued to cause issues for Bergholt and some good work by Ryan Savill & Kieran Radford saw Ben Murphy in behind, Murphy then cut in off his man and got a shot away but once again the ball went into the hands off Mitson.
Soon after Kyle Binns picked up the ball up on the half way line and found the run of Murphy, Murphy went through and was fouled about 25 yards out from goal. Beeson stepped over the free kick, he ran up and fired past a wrong-footed Mitson and into the back of the net to give Gas the lead.

With 15 minutes remaining Bergholt looked for an equaliser and almost found one when Jack Thurston crossed in a magnificent ball which was missed-timed by Murray and fell to Joe Steel at the back post who, on the half volley, fired over the bar. Huge chance missed.
Joe Steel then had an effort from the edge of the box which was well caught by Murray.
With 8 minutes remaining, Matt Murray was called into action once again. Another great ball by Jack Thurston met the head off Daniel Keeble who’s header was heading top left but Murray stuck up a great hand to keep Gas ahead.
With minutes remaining, Gas looked for a 3rd late on and came close when Reece Doig’s effort went just past the post. And with that Gas comfortably saw off any danger and Andrew French blew up for full time.
FT: West Bergholt FC Reserves 1-2 Gas Recreation FC Reserves
A great result for Rob Roberston’s Gas as they take a strong 3 points off a good West Bergholt side. A scrappy game but an enjoyable one. All the best to both for rest of the season.
