Reserves Knock Out Cup Final 2018/19
Good Friday 19th April 2019 Venue: The War Memorial Ground, Little Oakley.
Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves v Great Bentley FC Reserves
Lee Purchase’s Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves played Richie
Herbert and Gordan Lawrence Great Bentley Reserves in this year’s Reserves
Knock out cup final, Alresford finished their season in division one ending in
3rd position. Great Bentley on the other are in division three, sitting well in
3rd with 4 games left and promotion very likely. Could Bentley cause an upset
and defeat Alresford?
Alresford got us underway at a very hot War Memorial Ground.
The first chance of the game fell to Bentley on 2 minutes, A Connor Bennett
corner was cleared only to the edge of the box where Gareth Evans fired at goal
but wide of the goal. Alresford then responded with a good chance when a Kye
Tuckwell cross into the box met the head off Ashley Sauka but he’s header was
off Target.
On the 18th minute the games turning point happened when
referee Phil Molloy sent off Alresford’s Chris Price for a challenge on Connor
Bennett, 10 v 11, with 70 minutes remaining.
Bentley responded the much better to the red card as
predicted and came close to opening the deadlock two minutes later, Dave
Gallant got down the line and got into the box and drilled a low ball across
goal which saw Sam Winney get a touch too it and send it towards goal, but
Peter Spencer got down well to make the save. On the 27th minute Great Bentley
were awarded a penalty, Jake Bell with a long throw into the box was flicked on
and found the feet off Gareth Evans who with his back to goal was apparently
fouled in the back, referee Phil Molloy gives a penalty, Connor Bennett stepped
up and fired down the middle past Spencer.

Down to 10 minute and 1-0 down with 60 minutes left is always
going to be a hard task for Alresford but they responded really well, a long ball
over the top met the run off Ashley Sauka who got to the edge of the box, cut
back and opened up and fired over Trevor Kirk and hit the bar and Bentley
cleared.
Alresford again came close when Kye Tuckwell played a ball
down the line to Andy Marchant who crossed in a great ball, Bentley cleared
only as far Ross Nash who fired first time at goal past Trevor Kirk but Nathan
Taylor was there to clear the ball off the line.
With minutes remaining Great Bentley came very close to
adding a 2nd when a Connor Bennett corner was crossed in and met the head off
Chris Bowles who headed into the top right corner but Kye Tuckwell was on hand
to head away off the line.

Great Bentley got us underway for the second half, but it was
a very slow start to the second half, but Alresford on the 54th minute had a
great chance to get level with a free kick on the edge of the box, Ashley Sauka
stepped up fired the ball past the wall but into the hands of Trevor Kirk.
Great Bentley then had a corner which Connor Bennett took,
David Gallant got his head to it, but he headed wide.
Alresford continued to press to grab that equalizer, a Peter
Spencer free kick was lofted into the box, flicked on by Todd Ayling and fell
to Ashely Sauka who fired at goal on the spin, but his shot went safety into
the hands of Trevor Kirk.
Alresford with 25 minutes remaining had a great chance when
Ross Mathews got into the box and laid off Russell Mclean who fired at goal but
fired straight at Trevor Kirk.
Great Bentley with 15 minutes remaining had a golden chance
to go 2-0 up when an outstanding switch of play by Jake Vaughan to Connor
Bennett who touched down and fired at goal, but Peter Spencer made a brilliant
save to keep ACR in the game.
Great Bentley then had another good chance when Chris Bowles
got down the bye-line played in Jake Vaughan on the edge of the box who shot
but Spencer got down well to make the save.
Into added time and Referee Phil Molloy sent off Andrew Marchant
for a second yellow card and showed Bentley defender Ryan McMahon a straight
red for an off the ball incident.
Free kick Great Bentley 30 yards out, Captain David Gallant
stepped up, ran up and fired an outstanding effort into the top left corner
past Spencer and into the back of the net, then goes and celebrates with the
Bentley dugout. What a goal to end this cup final.

Suffolk Border League Reserve Knock Out Cup, Todd Ayling for Alresford for also
sent off after the full time whistle.
