ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 21/10/2023.

Despite the heavy rain that had fallen at the end of last week, only eight of thirty-six matches were postponed, Premier Division, Silver End United, three goals for Gage, as expected beat Division Three, Cornard United Reserves in the outstanding Knock-Out Cup tie and in the Suffolk Primary Cup, Cavendish beat Lakenheath Casuals

Premier Division leaders Colne Athletic stroll on, getting their revenge for their only defeat so far, when beating Belle Vue Social, Tiptree Heath moved into second spot, when beating Earls Colne, as Hatfield Peverel lost to White Notley and Stanway Rovers Reserves only gained a point at Lawford Lads, but were probably expected, all three, whilst Brightlingsea Town, Dedham Old Boys were also winners.

There were only three games in Division One, Cressing, now playing at Stebbing, hit five, three for Miller, against Tavern, the surprise was the loss by Kings Park Rangers against the usually competitive mid-table Great Bentley and The Rodings found their shooting boots, three for Seager, when beating Mersea Island.

Bradfield Rovers kept pace with leaders Gas Recreation, both won, in Division Two where there were also victories for Boxted Lodgers and Hedinghams United.

Four matches were played in Division Three, leaders Gosfield United edged out bottom team, Prettygate but Gas Recreation Reserves failed to capitalise when drawing with Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves but undefeated Flitch United beat previously unbeaten Great Bentley Reserves to jump up to fourth with games in hand.

Abbey Fields have found the going tough this season, another defeat for them on Saturday, at home to unbeaten The Rodings Reserves, however, leaders Brantham Athletic (Development) suffered a second successive defeat, this was against Great Bradfords for whom it was their first win, which allowed “unconventional” Stillwaters to move into second place! In the same Division, Four, Oyster also lost their unbeaten tag losing against Roman Rovers Reserves and Wormingford Wanderers Reserves got their first win against Tiptree Heath Reserves.

Division Five had four games, leaders Great Bentley “A” lost away to Hedinghams United Reserves who move back into second place, fourth placed Boxted Lodgers Reserves beat third placed Bradfield Rovers Reserves, Mersea Island Reserves, four for Higgins, hammered Ramsey & Mistley Reserves and finally West Bergholt Reserves drew with Roman Rovers (Development).
