ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 22/04/2023

23 matches were played on Saturday, five teams failed to find the net but 114 goals were scored, top scorers Belle Vue had Cripps, four and Willoughby, six on target, Hudson hit three for Earls Colne, Thorpe had two hat-trick players in Barnard (B) and Webb, Osborne hit three for Alresford Reserves in a rare win and Gregoire scored four for Oyster in the Tommy Thompson Cup, whilst Gas Recreation FC Reserves completed their Division Five, league programme with a resounding victory, three for Page, against Boxted Lodgers Reserves which confirmed their Championship winners status with League Secretary, Alison Stanford at Bromley Road to award the Trophy.

Tuesday evening saw victories for Barnston, Silver End United, Tiptree Jobserve Reserves, Colne Athletic Reserves, Gas Recreation, three for Maiden, Prettygate, Roman Rovers.

Wednesday evening saw wins fore Brantham Athletic Reserves, Chelmsford City Reserves and West Bergholt with Alresford Colne Rangers drawing at Stanway Rovers U23’s in the Premier. Tatum with three helped Cavendish win at Gosfield United and Hedinghams beat Boxted in Division One, elsewhere Wormingford and Hatfield Peverel Reserves shared the spoils and Dedham Old Boys Reserves got the better of Sporting Rebels.

Back to Saturday, Barnston Reserves and Cavendish Reserves progressed in the COVIDS Cup.

Division Five saw an away win for Assington Stanley.

In Division Four, Abbey Fields drew against Wormingford Wanderers Reserves and High Roding kept top spot with a comfortable win against Ramsey & Mistley.

Division Three favourites Gas Recreation won on the road, Bradfords Rovers got the better of Brantham Athletic “A” and finally, Flitch United and Sporting Rebels shared the points.

Five games survived in Division Two, Hedinghams, Mersea Island, Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, Boxted Lodgers and division leaders Dovercourt Rovers.

Thorpe Athletic were the only winners in Division One.

The focus now is who will win the Premier Division, Earls Colne got back to winning ways to stay fourth, Barnston, Stanway Rovers U23’s, Chelmsford City Reserves and Belle Vue Social who stay fifth. At the top both Dunmow Town against third placed Brantham Athletic Reserves and Tiptree Heath away at Alresford Colne Rangers also won, interestingly these teams meet on Wednesday 3^rd May.
