Tiptree Heath FC v Alresford Colne Rangers FC

Steve Chester & Gary Wood’s Tiptree Heath FC welcomed Alresford Colne Rangers FC to Top Road, Tolleshunt Knights in what was a very important game for both sides. Heath were sitting in 3rd place, 4 points behind the Gas Rec who are top of the table. Alresford on the other hand are in 6th and are 6 points off Gas Rec although they’ve got a few games in hand. Could Heath continue their fantastic season and beat a good ACR side?

A minute silence was held before the game in remembrance for Reis Farley-Hearn who passed away on Wednesday evening.
The home side got us underway on a fairly nice sunny day in Tolleshunt Knights. The away side started the better and had a great chance within 4 minutes. Ermal Mucaj played a corner ball into box, Jordan Ellis rose high and headed at goal but Heath goalkeeper Paddi Hawkins caught comfortably. Alresford continued to start well and had a great chance to go ahead through Brett Bellamy. He played a ball out wide to Reife Marangou who beat his man and crossed a fantastic ball into the box which met the head of Ben Hughes who’s effort hit the crossbar and kindly fell into the hands of Hawkins.
Tiptree Heath then had a great chance off their own when Joe Chesney picked up the ball 25 yards out, turned and fired a magnificent effort at goal which saw Alresford keeper Peter Spencer use a strong hand to push it over the bar.
The deadlock was broken on 24 minutes and it was the home side who had the advantage. A low cross was put into the box towards Hazell who just missed it, Callum Hunt picked up the loose ball on the edge of the box before crossing to Ryan Knill-Jones who then flicked the ball at goal from 5 yards out. Spencer made a good save but the rebound fell kindly to Knill-Jones who reacted quickest to tuck it away to give Heath the lead!

Alresford responded really well from the goal and were almost level 5 minutes later. A great through-ball by Brett Bellamy found the run of Hughes who took a great touch to get past the oncoming Hawkins and from a tight angle he fired at goal. The ball was heading into the back of the net only for Jack Tollhurst to reach his leg out and flick over the bar, a magnificent block!
Hughes then had a brilliant effort at goal but Hawkins saved well. With 8 minutes left of the half, Heath doubled their lead and it was Knill-Jones with his second. Joe Chesney with a smart ball out-wide to Callum Hunt who delivered another fantastic ball which fell to Knill-Jones who side footed the ball into the bottom right corner.

With minutes left of the half remaining ACR should have pulled a goal back. Marangou with a clever bit of skill got to the edge of the box and laid off to Ermal Mucaj who touched the ball out his feet well and opened up to pull the trigger but he scuffed his shot wide of the post.

With 8 minutes left, Alresford should have had another goal back. Dorin Brat with a fantastic ball to the far post to Bellamy who controlled down well and fired at goal past Hawkins but Charlie Briggs somehow kept it out the goal with shouts of handball. After looking back at the footage, it appeared Briggs did indeed handball it but the game continued as we approached added time.
Into added time and ACR grabbed another goal back. A corner ball into the box was flicked on by Ben Hughes and fell kindly to Robert Wightman at the back post who slotted home!

A great game at Top Road, scrappy but an entertaining one. Some great goals and some good tackles. Tiptree stay in 3rd with results not going their way while ACR stay in 6th. Best of luck to both sides for the rest of the season.
