23/12/2023 – Weekly Round-Up

ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 23/12/2023.

In a reduced programme, some important matches were played last weekend, Premier Division leaders, Colne Athletic won by four first half goals, to nil against bottom team Alresford Colne Rangers, (three of them coming from Evans). Second placed Silver End United kept pace winning by the same margin at home to Stanway Rovers Reserves, that allowed Brightlingsea Town, (three for Baker {K}) to move up to third when going nap at Lawford Lads. Earls Colne beat Dedham Old Boys at home, whilst Barnston drew at Belle Vue Social and on Friday evening Sudbury Sports beat Hatfield Peverel by the odd goal in seven.

Two games were played in Division One, this saw away wins for Kings Park Rangers and Dovercourt Rovers who sit third and fourth respectively.

There were three matches in Division Two, Kershaw hit three goals in each half when scoring all six goals for Frinton & Walton on their travels, Hedinghams United also won away but in the top of the table clash, second placed Bradfield Rovers overcame third placed Gas Recreation, to go top, but the “Gas” albeit ten points behind have four games in hand!

The one match played in Division Three saw Little Oakley Reserves win by the only goal scored at Lawford Lads Reserves, they move up to fourth.

In Division Four, Stillwaters, (three for Lawal) went back to the summit when scoring five goals without replay against Ramsey & Mistley, what a season they are having!

Three matches were played in Division Five, Assington Stanley won by the odd goal in seven, the winner scored in added time, Boxted Lodgers Reserves were held by Elmstead Market but a revitalised Kelvedon Social beat division leaders Great Bentley “A” on “The Green”.

Oyster got the better of Brantham Athletic (Development) in the COVID Cup and finally, there were four Reserve Knock-Out Cup ties, all had three goals to one scorelines with Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, Dedham Old Boys Reserves, Great Bentley Reserves and Roman Rovers Reserves prevailing to complete the quarter-final line up.
