10/03/2015 – E&SBL v Essex Olympian League (Friendly)

ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE

REPRESENTATIVE TEAM

E&SBFL REPRENTATIVE TEAM:  2.   ESSEX OLYMPIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE:    1

Date:  Tuesday 10th March 2015.     Venue: Garrison Ground, Colchester.

The E&SBFL entertained the Essex Olympian Football League at the Garrison Ground, Colchester on Tuesday evening with local officials Susan Newton, Brian Forbes & Lewis Farthing keeping play moving.

Both Managers had suffered late player unavailability, frustrating but inevitable I suppose, but the E&SBFL still managed to field three substitutes and the teams agreed on rolling substitutes to allow better player assessment in this long awaited friendly, previously the respective league teams had met two years ago with the E&SBFL winning by three goals to two at Hornchurch FC.

The first half was competitive with both teams going close on numerous occasions but the visitors took the lead when Ball seemed to be impeded inside the six-yard area, the ball rebounded off the cross-bar and the visitors number seven headed home from close range.

The E&SBFL hit-back strongly and Shaw failed to connect with a great free-kick taken by Polley however JAMIE SHAW did equalise before half-time with a well worked attack and finish.

HALF-TIME:     1 – 1

As expected both Managers made early changes in the second half, Flack and Kioussis replacing Palmer (M) and Polley however both returned later in the game. The E&SBFL defence were put under pressure by the visitors whose pacy number seven caused problems but when going forward themselves the visitors had to be alert at the back.

JAMIE SHAW once again showed his goal-scoring prowess to put the home side in front before being replaced by Eaton who immediately used his pace to get behind the defence but pulled his shot wide. Kioussis also went through but placed the ball wide of the goal with only the keeper to beat. As the game wore on the visitors pushed forward but could not get behind a determined home defence and Ball dealt competently with any crosses or goal-bound shots.

FULL TIME:      2 – 1

Whilst probably not the strongest squad of players that could be assembled from the E&SBFL there was no doubt that those who were available and played on the night gave a fair assessment of their relative abilities and no player could be accused of not performing in a very competitive game as very quickly these players bonded together, kept their heads and played some decent football.

The E&SBFL League Representative Management Team would like to thank those clubs who allowed players to take part and advise that the next Representative Team friendly will be on:
