Hi everyone,
Please take a minute to read this message and support a great cause.
I was watching the news at the weekend when a story about a young boy called Bradley Lowery came on.
Bradley is just 5 years old and has neuroblastoma – a particularly aggressive cancer. He has had scans in hospital recently and to cut a long story short, his cancer has continued to grow. Bradley’s consultant has given his family three options but they will all ultimately lead to the same conclusion; Bradley is going to die.
Bradley’s parents are now making the heartbreaking decision over what course of action to take. They could bring him home from hospital, stopping his care (which will give him 2 months – the consultant has said this is what he would do, if it were his son). They could continue with chemotherapy which will weaken him further or they could opt for antibody treatment in the USA but time and money are against them and there are no guarantees.
Bradley’s last wish is to receive thousands of Christmas cards and this is where I think we can help. Sunderland and Newcastle football clubs are supporting this in Bradley’s native North East and more high profile are getting behind it too.
Our contribution is tiny compared to what can be achieved but I couldn’t watch that and do nothing.
I think it’s important that we all do something for someone else and understand what Christmas is really about – let’s face it, we can all be a bit selfish at this time of year.
My little boy was really unwell last Christmas with a virus. It was awful watching him not being interested in anything and not eating. Obviously there’s no comparison to what Bradley’s family are going through, but I can kind of sympathize.
For more information there are some sites on Google you can look at explaining things in more detail – just type in ‘Bradley Lowery’.
Please watch them carefully before showing them to your children and make you sure you have tissues handy – it’s awful to watch.
If you have a spare card, please please send it to Bradley and make his xmas wish come true.
