ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 03/02/2024.

There are now three months of the season left, Divisional titles are still up for grabs and Cup matches within the ESBFL and in Essex County Cups continues.

Thorpe Athletic FC had to rely on a last-minute winner to overcome Great Bentley FC in their Essex Junior Cup quarter-final, they now move forward to play Rawreth Lane FC, who beat Tavern FC, Cressing United FC also remain in that Cup, but their opponents are, as yet, unknown.

In the Knock-Out Cup, the, all Division One clash, saw Kings Park Rangers overcome The Rodings by two goals to nil.

The quarter finals, of the Reserve KO Cup were played and there were victories for alphabetically, Dedham Old Boys Reserves, (three for Vitelli), Gas Recreation Reserves, Roman Rovers Reserves and White Notley Reserves, (three for Clifford {L}).

There were seven fixtures in the Premier Division, thirty-seven goals were scored, there was one draw between Silver End United and Dedham Old Boys but big wins for, Belle Vue, (three for Harrington), Brightlingsea Town, Colne Athletic, Earls Colne, Stanway Rovers Reserves and Tiptree Heath, (four for Green).

Eleven goals were scored in the two, Division One matches, Dovercourt emerged as winners at Tiptree Jobserve and there were three goals each for Wormingford Wanderers and Cressing United, that matched the same number of red cards issued!

The three matches in Division Two were much closer, Frinton & Walton won at Cavendish, but Bradfield Rovers drew with Hedinghams United, as did Hatfield Peverel Reserves against Boxted Lodgers.

Division Three had three matches and twenty goals, Little Oakley Reserves held Flitch United, a goal apiece, but leaders Gosfield United hit nine of the twelve in their match and Prettygate had their scoring boots with them again as they hit six without reply.

A full house in Division Four, six matches, twenty-eight goals with wins for Boxford Rovers, (four for Murphy), Great Bradfords, (four for Postill), The Rodings Reserves, Stillwaters, who go top and Tendring District (three for Willoughby-Burrell), the other match was a nil-nil draw.

There were five matches in Division Five, goals galore here as well, thirty-four in fact, Mersea Island Reserves hit twelve, (three for Washington)(sadly their First Team have withdrawn for Division One), Brooklands beat Kelvedon Social by the odd goal in seven, Elmstead Market beat Roman Rovers “A”, Assington Stanley beat West Bergholt by a single goal to leapfrog them into second place, whilst Hedinghams United Reserves drew with Bradfield Rovers Reserves.
