ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 10/02/2024.

In the quarter final of the Essex Premier Cup, pride of place this week must go to Brightlingsea Town FC, they defeated, past winners, Catholic United FC, at a soggy Strangers Corner, the final score was five goals to four, two for Baker (K) and three from Close. The semi-final draw has yet to be made but let’s hope Tiptree Heath can also win through when they manage to play Harold Wood Athletic.

Cavendish FC progressed in the Suffolk Primary Cup when beating Kirton Athletic FC Reserves.

          In a reduced fixture list just fifteen league matches survived out of the thirty-three scheduled, what a nightmare for the Fixture Secretary!

          In the Premier Division, lowly, Belle Vue Social won by the only goal at Stanway Pegasus Reserves.

          Division One had only one match as well, with Kings Park Rangers winning over on Great Bentley Green, scoring three without reply. League positions in this Division have this week been adjusted, this was due to the withdrawal of Mersea Island “First Team”. Thorpe Athletic remain top but Dovercourt Rovers now sit second and Kings Park Rangers third.

          Two matches survived in Division Two, Gas Recreation won at Hedinghams United and bottom team, Hatfield Peverel Reserves edged out second bottom, Tiptree Jobserve Reserves by the odd goal in five on the 3G pitch at Shrub End, where three other matches took place on grass, despite the weather.

          In Division Three, three matches were played, second placed Dedham Old Boys Reserves were held by mid-table Prettygate, Great Bentley Reserves moved up to third when beating Tollesbury and Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves got all three points against Lawford Lads Reserves.

          Division Four fared better with five matches played, Boxford Rovers held free scoring Great Bradfords at home, and the respective Reserve teams of Roman Rovers, Silver End United, The Rodings, and Wormingford Wanderers all won.

          Finally, in the bottom Division, three matches went ahead, leaders Great Bentley “A” scraped home by the only goal against Elmstead Market, second placed Assington Stanley were surprisingly beaten by a resurgent Kelvedon Social and Boxted Lodgers Reserves beat Bradfield Rovers Reserves.
