Jack Frost was the main winner last Saturday, twenty-one matches were postponed but twelve did get played, albeit that four were played on 3G pitches, unaffected by the weather!

The Premier Division had three matches, all played on 3G pitches and all with a three o’clock kick-off’s, second placed Brightlingsea Town moved to within one point of leaders Kings Park Rangers when beating Sudbury Sports. Cressing United jumped up to third when defeating Tiptree Heath and Stanway Pegasus Reserves swap places with Dedham Old Boys after beating the visitors by three goals to one.

There were just two matches in Division One, bottom team, Cavendish hosted second bottom, Hedinghams United and won by four goals to two, meaning the teams swap places, if only on goal difference. In a tight competition for a promotion spot, fifth placed Gosfield United beat fourth placed Little Oakley Reserves by three goals to two, moving up to third in doing so.

Division Two, mid-table, Oyster played third placed, Great Bentley “A” over on Mersea Island and drew, scoring two goals apiece.

In the only match in Division Four, Harwich & Parkeston “A” consolidated second spot after boosting their goals “for” tally when beating lowly Tollesbury by eight goals to nil, (three for Smith), they are the league’s second highest goalscorers with eighty, just behind inactive, Silver End United Reserves who have scored eighty-three times in the same division.

The Knock-Out Cup served up a bit of a surprise as Fourth Division, Tendring Borough beat Second Division, Roman Rovers on penalties after the scores were tied at three goals apiece at the end of normal time, the winners now play Dedham Old Boys.

There were three matches in the Richard Degville Cup, Hatfield Peverel Reserves beat Kelvedon Social, Wormingford Wanderers beat Mersea Island and Tiptree Heath Reserves progress after beating Hedinghams United Reserves on penalties with the scores level at one goal apiece at normal, full-time.

Another surprise result came in the Tommy Thompson Cup, here, Division Four, Boxted Lodgers Reserves (three for Amos), beat Division Two high-flyers, Prettygate by five goals to four, the winners play Harwich & Parkeston “A” in the second round.
