ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 04/05/2024.
On Tuesday evening, there were six matches, congratulations to Brightlingsea Town FC who beat Heybridge Swits FC Reserves by five goals to one (three for Baker {K}) in the BBC Essex Premier Cup semi-final, they now play Rayleigh Town FC in the final at Aveley FC. Division Two, Cavendish FC lost by two goals to nil against Redgrave Rangers FC, from the S.I.L, Division Three, this match, the Suffolk County primary Cup, was played at the Jobserve Community Stadium, home of Colchester United FC. Premier Division, Silver End United got over the “runners-up” line when beating Barnston, Thorpe Athletic drew with FC Clacton Reserves, Roman Rovers beat Frinton & Walton and Stillwaters beat Ramsey & Mistley.
Wednesday had just three matches, in the local derby, Dedham Old Boys Reserves, (three for Vitelli) beat Lawford Lads Reserves, Boxford Rovers beat Abbey Fields and Mersea Island Reserves beat Roman Rovers (Development), the latter match completing the Division Five programme.
Due to the wet weather, the scheduled Friday night, “Knock-Out Cup” final between Thorpe Athletic FC and Stanway Rovers Community FC U23’s was postponed, a new date will be notified.
And so, to Saturday, just one Premier was played and in a one-sided game Sudbury Sports hit ten goals, (four for Cox), against White Notley.
In the winner-takes-all match in Division One, Kings Park Rangers beat Cressing United and thus become Runners-Up, to Thorpe Athletic.
Division Two had two matches played, Hatfield Peverel Reserves could not raise a team against Gas Recreation, points will be awarded in due course, White Notley Reserves beat Colne Athletic Reserves to extend their lead at the top and Tiptree Jobserve Reserves beat Roman Rovers.
Divisional winners, the Rodings Reserves stroll on, in Division Four, another big win, (three for Johnson {R}), saw them beat Ramsey & Mistley, a bigger win was made by Great Bradford who move up to third after hitting twelve, (three for both Postil and Shearer) against Oyster. FC Clacton “A” got a rare win against Silver End United Reserves and change places with Abbey Fields who lost against Stillwaters, finally Wormingford Wanderers Reserves beat Boxford Rovers.
In the outstanding Covid Cup quarter-final tie, Prettygate got the better of Flitch United and will play Great Bentley Reserves in the semi-final.
The Tommy Thompson, semi-final tie, saw Hedinghams United overcome Gosfield United where they will play Bradfield Rovers in the final, which is scheduled for Thursday 9th May 2024, at Little Oakley FC.
On Saturday 11th May 2024, the “Peter Andrews Charity Cup” will be played at Coggeshall Town FC, the finalists are Cavendish FC and Great Bentley FC, kick-off is 15:00pm.
