ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 27/04/2024.
On Tuesday evening, four matches were played in Division Four, there were wins for Ramsey & Mistley, Roman Rovers Reserves and Tendring District with Stillwaters drawing with Boxford Rovers.
Wednesday had five games, Silver End United bounced back with a victory over Stanway Pegasus Reserves to go third and Brightlingsea Town drew with Stanway Rovers Community U23’s to finish fourth. In Division One, Cressing United, stay third but could only draw against Tiptree Jobserve. The two matches in Division Three, produced two drawn matches.
On Saturday, the single match in the Premier Division saw a surprise, Silver End United need three points for “Runners-Up” but lost at Earls Colne who have finished mid-table.
Division One, had two important matches, Champions, Thorpe Athletic were thumped by a strong Kings Park Rangers team and Cressing United scored the only goal to beat Great Bentley, this means next weeks meeting of the two will decide the “Runners-Up spot”.
White Notley Reserves went back to the top of Division Two, after beating Cavendish, third placed, Gas Recreation just got the better of Frinton & Walton who can only finish fourth, the basement battle saw Hatfield Peverel Reserves continue their late season form when drawing with Cornard United Reserves.
There were two matches in Division Three, Little Oakley Reserves finished their season at the top, at least for the moment, after beating Gas Recreation Reserves in a nine-goal thriller, but there were no goals scored by second placed Gosfield United who were held by fifth placed Dedham Old Boys Reserves.
Division Four, remains the most active, there were five matches, Boxford Rovers beat Tendring District, Oyster beat second placed Stillwaters, fifth placed Roman Rovers, (three for Goddard), beat Silver End United Reserves, lowly Ramsey & Mistley held Great Bradfords at two goals apiece but The Rodings Reserves stride on and after beating bottom team FC Clacton “A”, and with five games remaining they cannot be caught.
Tenth placed Roman Rovers “A” scored four against eleventh placed Elmstead Market who also scored four in Division Five.
There were two matches in the Tommy Thompson Cup, a quarter-final match saw Hedinghams United beat Great Bentley Reserves, the winners now play Gosfield United next Saturday. In the other match, a semi-final match, Bradfield Rovers reached the final after beating Mersea Island Reserves. The final of the Tommy Thompson Cup will be played on Thursday 9th May 2024 at Little Oakley FC, Kick-Off is: 19:45pm
On Tuesday 30th April 2024, Premier Division, Brightlingsea Town FC face Heybridge Swifts FC Reserves in the delayed semi-final of the BBC Essex Premier Cup, we wish them well.
Also on Tuesday 30th April 2024, Cavendish FC play Redgrave Rangers FC in the Suffolk FA Primary Cup final at the Jobserve Stadium, home of Colchester United FC, local support would be welcome.
On Friday 3rd May 2024, the Knock-Out Cup final will be played at Little Oakley FC, Kick-Off is: 19:45pm between Division One, Thorpe Athletic FC and Premier Division, Stanway Rovers Community FC U23’s, so we are guaranteed a new name on the winners-cup.
