06/04/2019 – REPORT – Flitch United FC versus Bures United FC

Essex and Suffolk Border League Division One

Flitch United FC v Bures United FC

Pete Monk’s Flitch United FC, welcomed Bures United FC to Allcourts on this cloudy Saturday afternoon. A must win for Flitch, all 3 points wins them the title, a draw or defeat and Tiptree Engaine beat Boxted Lodgers then Tiptree win the league. Could Flitch win the title or would the Suffolk side ruin the party?

The away side got us underway. Flitch had the first real chance of the game, Matt Coppersmith with a long ball into the box, Billy Sykes flicked it on and saw Dan O’Brien head straight to Matt Wickham who on the edge of the box first time fired at goal but Jack Hubbard got down well to make the save, corner to Flitch, Jordan Marsh crosses in and met the head off Shane Pyne who headed at goal but once again Jack Hubbard got a strong hand on it to keep it out. 
24 minutes on the clock and Flitch almost took the lead, a great goal kick by Andy Taylor met the head off Matt Wickham who flicked on which saw Jordan Marsh through on goal, Bures defender Jake Wood came across and brilliantly forced Marsh to a tight angle where Marsh fired over the bar. 
1 minute later and the deadlock was broken, and it was Flitch who took the lead, Matt Wickham driving at the Bures defence, played a ball out-wide to Marsh who looked up and played back to Wickham and from 10 yards out Wickham fired home into the bottom left corner!

2 minutes later and Flitch had a 2nd, Jordan Marsh with a corner into the box was missed by everyone but found Ollie Coppersmith round the back, Coppersmith looked up and fired a low ball into the box which saw Shane Pyne react first and fire home to double Flitch’s lead.

Bures looked straight away to try and get a goal back and almost did, Myles Clark with a free kick into the box which met the head of Harry Liskus who headed down too Courtney Prince who fired just wide of the post.
Minutes later and Flitch punished, Dan O’Brien winning the ball in the midfield looks up and plays a great ball through, Jordan Marsh nips it past Wood and on the volley calmly placed over Hubbard and into the back of the net, brilliant finish!

On the 39th minute, Flitch had a 4th, a well-timed ball by Wickham saw Pyne through on goal and Pyne fired into the bottom left corner. A brilliant finish.

Bures, to their credit didn’t give up and kept going and played some really good football at times and came close to getting a goal back when some good build up play saw Sam Fairless cut in on his left foot and fire at goal, but Andy Taylor got down well to make the save. 
Bures then had another great chance when a ball in the box met the head off Courtney Prince, but he’s header went into the hands of Taylor.
Flitch then had a 5th bang on half time, Shane Pyne got down the wing and into the box, looked up and found Billy Sykes who from 7 yards out fired home into the top left corner.

The second half got underway and Flitch had a great chance to grab a 6th, Jordan Marsh with a good delivery into the box met the head off Shane Pyne who headed just wide. 
Flitch had a free kick around 30 yards out which saw Dan O’Brien step over, he ran up and fired a great effort at goal but that went over the bar. 
Bures then had a good chance of their own a Myles Clark free kick was cleared to the edge of the box only as far as Jack Durey who fired his shot just past the post. 
Bures then had another really good chance when a Myles Clark free kick was delivered really well into the box, fell to Harry Liskus, who played out-wide to Sam Fairless who fired at goal, but Taylor stood strong. 
Shane Pyne was then through on goal, beating the offside trap, Pyne was at a tight angle but fired at goal past Hubbard but also past the post. 
Bures continued to look for a goal back and once again came close when Sam Fairless found Courtney Prince on the edge of the box, Prince cut back and, on the turn fired at goal but fired past the post. 
With 15 minutes remaining Flitch looked for another goal and came close when Jordan Marsh received the ball on the half volley and fired at goal but he’s effort went over. 
Jordan Marsh continued to cause problems and came close when he was sent through on goal, Marsh fired straight at Hubbard and Hubbard saved well. 
On the 78th minute, Flitch had their 6th, a quickly taken corner by Marsh found Neil Rivett who crossed the ball, it was missed by everyone and went into the bottom right corner!

Shane Pyne then went on a little run, beating two Bures players then opening up from 30 yards out but that was comfortable for Hubbard.
With minutes remaining Bures continued to look for a goal and came close when a ball dropped perfectly for Courtney Prince who overhead kicked it over the bar.

Congratulations to Flitch who have won the Division One title for the time being. Credit to Bures, played good football all afternoon but mistakes and missed chances cost them, head up guys and go again next season. Flitch though were very good, clinical and could have had more, played good football and are deserved champions, well done guys!
