10/04/2019 – REPORT – Long Melford FC Reserves versus Boxted Lodgers FC Reserves

Long Melford FC Reserves v Boxted Lodgers FC Reserves 

Stuart Malseed’s Long Melford Reserves welcomed Boxted Lodgers Reserves to Stoneylands, a win for Melford will see them move up to 2nd place while a win for Boxted Lodgers Reserves would move them up to 12th. Would Melford move up to 2nd or would Boxted take the points and move off the bottom? 

The home side got us underway, and inside a minute Boxted almost took the lead after Jack Keeble played through Conor Howard who took a touch then fired at goal but Max Boulter got down well to make the save. 
Boxted were then awarded a free kick 25 yards out, Conor Howard stepped up and fired his effort over the wall but into the hands off Max Boulter. 
Conor Howard continued to cause problems for the Melford defence and came close to opening the scoring when he latched onto the end of a loose ball and headed at goal but Boulter got across to make the save. 
It was a slow start to the game from Melford but they had a good chance to take the lead on 16 minutes when Andrew Fisher played an excellent diagonal ball into the box which found Dan Smith who first time crossed in and met the head of Sam Newton who headed at goal but Chris Study cleared off the line. 
Melford Captain Addy Roy then had a good chance when Andrew Fisher picked him out in the box, Roy picked it up and fired at goal but fired straight at George Beard. 
Melford then had another good chance when some great work by Cory Willings saw him find Addy Roy in the box but Addy’s shot was well saved by Beard. 
From the resulting corner, Newton crossed in and Cory Willings was at the front post but he’s effort went wide. 
On the 33rd minute the deadlock was broken and it was the home side who took the lead, some good build up play saw Perry Newman lay off Sam Newton on the edge of the box who fired at goal, taking a slight deflection before going into the top left corner.

4 minutes later and it was 2-0, a quick throw on down the line by Dan Smith met the feet off Sam Newton who crossed in a great ball which met the head off Cory Willings who brilliantly headed into the bottom left corner.

With the half coming to a close Melford had another good chance to grab a 3rd when a 
Perry Newman corner met the head off Cory Willings who’s headed went just over the bar.

Boxted got us underway for the second half but 6 minutes into the second half Melford had a 3rd, Steven Cole played a ball down the line to Perry Newman who drove into the box beating his man and calmly slotting home into the bottom left corner.

5 minutes later and Melford had a 4th, Boxted keeper George Beard received the ball and looked to play out from back but instead of passing to his team mate he accidentally passed to Melford’s Sam Newton who took a touch and calmly slotted home.

Melford continued to stay on top as the second half continued and produced a good save out of George Beard when a Perry Newman ball into the box was headed towards goal by Addy Roy but George Beard got a strong hand to it to deny Melford a 5th. 
With 63 minutes on the clock Boxted got a goal back, Liam Macklin with a ball out-wide too Jack Pencival who got down the line looked up and crossed in a great ball into the box straight on the head off Conor Howard who headed past Boulter and into the back of the net.

Melford with only 10 minutes remaining had an excellent chance to go 5-1 up when Addy Roy did a quick one Two with Pablo De Chaves and Roy opened fired at goal but fired straight at Beard.

Andrew Fisher then had an effort from the edge of the box go just over the bar. Then with 5 minutes left Lodgers had a golden chance to get another goal back when an excellent ball by Conor Howard found Vinny Flynn who took and touch and was through on goal, Flynn looked to go around the keeper but Boulter did well and took the ball off Flynn. 
Into the 2nd minute of added time and Melford had a 5th, when Ben Judge dinked a ball over the top to Pablo De Chaves, Pablo touched down and calmly fired through the keepers legs from a tight angle into the back of the net. 

FT: Long Melford FC Reserves 5-1 Boxted Lodgers FC Reserves 

A good result for Stuart Malseed’s Melford who move up to 2nd, Boxted stay bottom although gave a good fight, some good goals on store, some good football as well.
