07/02/2026 – Weekly Round-Up

ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2025 / 2026

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       07/02/2026.

Another week, another wash-out, that’s life these days, as only six matches were played involving teams from the ESBFL.

These mass postponements included the scheduled FA Inter-League, Round One, tie against the Southern Amateur League, with the pitch at The Royal Oak, Harwich, declared unplayable, this cup tie will now take place on Saturday 14th February 2026, KO is 3pm, at The Elite Travel Stadium, home of AFC Sudbury.

Division Four, Rayne FC, as the last ESBFL team involved in Essex County cups, were level at half-time but lost out by five goals to one in the Junior Trophy, to Eversley Athletic FC, from the Mid-Essex League, Division One.

However, Cavendish FC, from Division Two, as the last ESBFL team involved in Suffolk County Cups, won through on penalty kicks, the scores were level at three goals apiece at normal time, but the team scored four spot kicks to the two from Haverill Town FC, who top Division 3A, of the Cambridgeshire County League, to progress further in the Suffolk FA Primary Cup.

Division One had two matches, Prettygate were held at home on the Shrub End, 3G pitch, by Great Bentley Reserves, the visitors missing a late penalty before scoring in added time to secure a point. Bottom team, Lawford Lads upset the form book by winning only their second match of the season, this was against Dovercourt Rovers who had agreed to move their home match to Lawford, where the pitch is well maintained, drains well and is rarely called off!

Another pitch that is rarely troubled by the wet conditions is at Cage Lane, Boxted, where the Lodgers beat bottom team, Brooklands by seven goals to one, the home team stay eighth.

Another grass pitch that survived the elements was at Division Four, Tollesbury, they sat in sixth place and hosted twelfth placed West Bergholt Reserves, but lost out by four goals to three, must have been entertaining though!
