ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 09/09/2023.

          On the hottest day of the year so far, thirty-seven matches were scheduled, three failed to take place as teams struggled to find sufficient players, one was abandoned for a serious injury, but the rest produced one hundred & fifty-five goals, so who needs a goal-keeper! Incidentally, there are more players registered in the ESBFL so far this season than at the end of last season, so where are they all!

          Colne Athletic stay top of the Premier Division, closely followed by Stanway Rovers Community U23’s, there were also wins for Barnston, four out of seven for Bowen, Brightlingsea Town, who stay third, Stanway Pegasus Reserves, Sudbury Sports and White Notley.

          There were six games in Division One, Thorpe Athletic, Gray with a hat-trick, and Wormingford both won to head the table, CO4 Ultras and Mersea Island also won, with Gt Bentley and Tavern sharing the points.

          Gas Recreation were the only home team winners in Division Two, they remain top, Cavendish and Tiptree Jobserve Reserves also won and Boxted Lodgers and Hedinghams United got a point each.

          Division Three saw five matches played, Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, won at home, Gas Recreation Reserves, Gosfield United, Great Bentley Reserves and Little Oakley Reserves, who head the table, all won on the road.

          Six matches were played in Division Four, Boxford Rovers, Brantham Athletic (Development), who are top, Oyster, Stillwaters, who are second, and Tendring District all won, and the only other match was a draw between Tiptree Heath Reserves against The Rodings Reserves.

          Finally, in Division Five, there were home wins for, Assington Stanley, Brooklands, Mersea Island Reserves and West Bergholt Reserves with away wins for Boxted Lodgers Reserves and Bradfield Rovers Reserves.
