ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 16/09/2023.

          Thorpe Athletic overcame Tavern in the Division One, mid-week match and they followed that with another victory over Tiptree Jobserve to increase their lead at the top, this Division looks like it will be close all season, CO4 Ultra’s managed their second win, coming from behind, in an error strewn match, to beat Gt Bentley, Johnson scored four for Dovercourt Rovers whose five-goal tally was enough for them to overcome Tavern’s four, elsewhere Kings Park Rangers, Cressing and FC Clacton Reserves also won.

         The big game in the Premier Division saw leaders Colne Athletic beat Brightlingsea Town, to move five points clear of second placed Stanway Rovers Community Reserves who lost away to Hatfield Peverel, other winners were Stanway Pegasus Reserves, Barnston, Dedham Old Boys, Earls Colne and Silver End.

         In Division Five, the leagues newest team, Elmstead Market got their first win at the fifth attempt when beating Mersea Island Reserves, leaders Hedinghams United Reserves won again, Brooklands leapfrogged West Bergholt whom they beat, whilst Boxted Lodgers Reserves against Assington Stanley and Ramsey & Mistley Reserves against Gt Bentley “A” shared the points.

Brantham Athletic (Development), three goals for Asiedu, share top spot in Division Four with Stillwaters, both are undefeated, Oyster and Tendring District are also unbeaten, both winning on their travels, there were also wins for Tiptree Heath Reserves and Ramsey & Mistley.

Two teams remain unbeaten in Division Three, Flitch United, who overcame previously unbeaten Little Oakley Reserves and Gt Bentley Reserves who have won three out of three, McMillan hitting three of their seven at home to local rivals Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves. There was a first win for Tollesbury, Gas Recreation Reserves won again and Gosfield shared the points with Barnston Reserves.

There are two undefeated teams in Division Two, promoted Gas Recreation stay top after their third straight win and White Notley Reserves, there were twenty-six goals in this division, eight were seen at Cavendish and nine at Frinton & Walton. Cornard United Reserves and Hatfield Peverel Reserves also won and finally Tiptree Jobserve Reserves drew with Boxted Lodgers.

A total of one hundred & forty-four goals were scored last weekend, top divisional scorers are Premier – Bowen / Barnston (8)., Division One – Gray / Thorpe Athletic (8)., Division Two – Pullinger / Hedinghams United (5)., Division Three – Winney / Great Bentley (5)., Division Four – Asiedu / Brantham Athletic (Development)(6)., Division Five – Buckingham / Hedinghams United Reserves (5).
