WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 11/03/2023

ESBFL fixtures were dominated by the weather this week with seven matches falling by the wayside, evening matches seem to be a given now, making the task even more problematical for the Fixture Secretary.

The Premier Division saw second placed Tiptree Heath drop points when drawing with Barnston, another draw, saw Hatfield Peverel and Alresford Colne Rangers fail to find the net at all. An away victory for Brantham Athletic Reserves, who are having their best season ever, saw them jump into third place when beating opponents Belle Vue Social who drop to fifth. There were victories for Earls Colne, a resurgent White Notley and Sudbury Sports who had five different scorers in their six goal tally against bottom team, Harwich & Parkeston Reserves.

In Division One the local derby on Great Bentley Green saw the home team share the points with league leaders Brightlingsea Town and lowly Cavendish went nap at home to fellow strugglers Cressing United which moved them up two places to eighth, they also have games in hand due to a prolonged Suffolk County Cup campaign.

Tollesbury, bottom of Division Two won their first game of the season when beating fellow strugglers Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, similarly, White Notley Reserves won their first match since October and Wormingford Wanderers beat Hedinghams United to draw level on points in mid-table.

Division Three saw home wins for Barnston Reserves and bottom team Brantham Athletic “A” with Bradfield Rovers and Great Bentley Reserves both winning on the road, by two goals to nil.

Four matches survived in Division Four, second placed Roman Rovers overcame bottom team Hedinghams United Reserves, Kelvedon Social beat Cavendish Reserves both by the odd goal in five and Lawford Lads Reserves beat Tendring District.

In Division Five, second placed Oyster increased their goal tally by ten percent hitting eleven goals against Kelvedon Social “A”, seven different scorers there topped with three for Gregoire. Gas Recreation Reserves remain top after beating Roman Rovers Reserves whilst third placed Boxford Rovers had Egglestone, with three, on target, coming from four goals to three down at half-time to win by six goals to four, some comeback that!
