WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 18/03/2023

ESBFL fixtures were once again dominated by the weather with thirteen matches being postponed, the fixtures for the remainder of the season will soon be available, evening games and maybe two evening games a week maybe required for certain teams!

The Premier Division is still led by Dunmow Town who hit six past West Bergholt, Tiptree Heath kept pace scoring five, three for Michaels, against Sudbury Sports, another win for Belle Vue Social sees them rise to fourth and Colne Athletic, with games in hand, stay sixth after beating Hatfield Peverel.

The big game of the day was in Division One, this saw leaders Brightlingsea Town travel to second placed Silver End and come back with nothing, having been beaten for the first time this season by four goals to one, the victors remain fourteen points behind with six games in hand, elsewhere, there were also wins for Great Bentley and Thorpe Athletic.

Division Two is still headed by Dovercourt Rovers, who were inactive, second placed Tavern commendably changed venues so their game against Tiptree Jobserve Reserves could go ahead, a one all draw resulted. Fourth placed Boxted Lodgers eked out a single goal victory over fifth placed Hedinghams United with Mersea Island hitting eight against Wormingford Wanderers, three for Mahon here. At the bottom White Notley Reserves gained three useful points against Colne Athletic Reserves.

Just one game in Division Three, this saw fifth placed Flitch United get the better of bottom team Brantham Athletic “A”.

In Division Four, Stillwaters maintained their end of season flourish with a win against bottom team Hedinghams United Reserves whilst second bottom placed Abbey Fields lost on the road at Cavendish Reserves. Ramsey & Mistley hit twelve at home against Tendring District, there were nine different scorers, led by Cook with three, and FC Clacton “A” scored seven away from home, three for Ikwuegbu, whilst leaders High Roding switched their game to Cressing and won by a solitary goal.

Three matches were played in Division Five, the match between new teams Assington Stanley and Brooklands saw the visitors snatch the points by one goal in five. Second placed Oyster finished their league campaign with a single goal victory away against Bradfield Rovers Reserves. In the third game Boxford Rovers had rattled in no fewer than eight goals before half-time, easing off in the second half to win by twelve goals to nil, the three goals for McCracken were overshadowed by the six goals plus a penalty scored by Egglestone.
