There were a real mixed bag of league and cup matches last Saturday, the heavy rain during the week was expected to cause some cancellations, but only seven failed to start!

The Premier Division had five matches, East Thurrock Community strengthened their lead beating AFC Pegasus Colchester by six goals to one, the misery for Alresford Colne Rangers continued with a loss at home against Earls Colne and second bottom, White Notley surprised Hatfield Peverel, winning by two goals to nil. Sudbury Sports scored five and moved up to second spot after beating Cressing United, and another surprise saw third bottom Belle Vue Social beat unpredictable Tiptree Heath.

The top of the table match in Division One saw second placed Gosfield United inflict a first league defeat on The Rodings & Little Waltham who remain top, Clacton Regent stay third after beating second bottom Hatfield Peverel Reserves. Dovercourt Rovers move up one place after beating bottom team Lawford Lads, fourth bottom Frinton & Walton got the better FC Clacton Reserves, the team just below them and Great Bentley Reserves scored five against Tavern who are sixth.

There was just one match in Division Two, Silver End United move to within one point of leaders Bradfield Rovers after scoring five (three for Coney), against Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves.

Harwich & Parkeston “A” moved to the top of Division Three, making the journey to Mersea Island worthwhile when scoring four to beat Oyster and in an entertaining match Silver End United Reserves came from being behind at half-time to beat Boxted Lodgers by five goals to three.

Division Four had just three matches but twenty-seven goals, Kelvedon Social hit eight (three for Freathy), with just two in reply from Elmstead Market Reserves who drop to the bottom on goal difference. Hedinghams United Reserves move up to third place after scoring eight (three for both Curry and Parsons), without reply against Bradfield Rovers Reserves and finally Stanway Rovers EVL Development scored seven (three for Davison {J}), against West Bergholt Reserves, who managed two.

In the Knock-Out Cup, two Premier Division sides met at Bromley Road, and this saw Springfield ease past Gas Recreation by the odd goal in three to reach the quarterfinals.

This week was also Essex Junior Cup week, five matches involving ESBFL team were played, alphabetical winners were, Bradfield Rovers who scored twelve (seven for Allington and three for Dixon), against defenceless, Wivenhoe United! Great Bentley “A” beat Heybridge Swifts Reserves., Tiptree Jobserve scored eight (three for Clewlow), against Great Bradfords., Wormingford Wanderers beat Woodham Radars, but on the downside Springfield Reserves lost at home to Blackmore.

In an all ESBFL clash in the Essex Junior Trophy, Prettygate Reserves beat fellow Division Four team Wormingford Wanderers Reserves, this by four goals (three goals for Anderson) to one.

Finally, Cavendish played Woolverstone United Reserves in the Suffolk Primary Cup winning by four goals to nil.
