ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2025 / 2026

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       08/11/2025.

There were three league games in the Premier Division, none involved the top six teams, but Cressing United won against Belle Vue Social to move up to seventh, Earls Colne did the double over Tiptree Heath to move up to eighth whilst Dedham Old Boys and Gas Recreation drew.

Division One also had three matches, leaders’ The Rodings & Little Waltham beat Great Bentley Reserves, seventh placed Dovercourt Rovers drew with sixth placed Roman Rovers, the final match saw Hatfield Peverel Reserves and Hedinghams United draw.

In the only Division Two match, Great Bradfords are still looking for their first win, but they did gain a point when drawing against Wormingford Wanderers.

Harwich & Parkeston “A” (three for Clarke), won against Wivenhoe United to stay second, fourth placed Elmstead Market lost for the second week in a row, this time to Silver End United Reserves, the third match was a two-two draw between Mersea Island and unbeaten Great Bentley “A” who stay third.

Frinton & Walton Reserves (three each for Dean and O’Brien), stay top after hitting eight goals past West Bergholt Reserves, Roman Rovers “A” stay second after scoring five against Elmstead Market Reserves and Hedinghams United Reserves managed four goals (three for Curry), against Wormingford Wanderers Reserves.

In the Peter Andrews Charity Cup, Frinton & Walton beat Gosfield United, but the surprise result was in the Friday evening game where Division One, FC Clacton Reserves beat Premier Division, Sudbury Sports by four goals to nil!

There were nine matches scheduled in the Tommy Thompson cup, played for by teams in Division Two, Three and Four, one tie will be awarded but in the other eight, alphabetically, there were victories for Boxted Lodgers over Cressing United Reserves, Bradfield Rovers who scored ten goals (four for Griffin and three for Allington), over Stanway Rovers EVL Development., Cavendish over Roman Rovers Reserves., Gas Recreation Reserves (three for Maiden), over Prettygate Reserves., Silver End United Reserves over Ramsey & Mistley, Springfield Reserves over Brooklands, Tollesbury over Stillwaters., and West Bergholt (three for Clarke) over Kelvedon Social.

Rayne, from Division Four, one of only four ESBFL teams entered in the Essex Junior Trophy this season, beat Southminster United, from the Mid-Essex Football League, they will now play either Baddow Athletic or Central Park in the second round.

The ESBFL had nine teams competing in the BBC Essex Premier Cup, as usual there were mixed fortunes, a first victory of the season for Alresford Colne Rangers who put aside their miserable league form to beat Old Barkabbeyans, this was after extra-time, Clacton Regent beat ACD United, on penalties, this was also after extra-time, Great Bentley beat Hashtag United Reserves and Springfield beat Halstead Town Development on penalties, also after extra-time, to progress to the third round. Sadly, AFC Pegasus Colchester, Prettygate, Tavern, Thorpe Athletic and White Notley (AET) fell by the wayside.
