WEEKLY ROUND UP @ 16/05/2026.
The season end is nigh, Tuesday evening saw Wormingford Wanderers Reserves beat Roman Rovers “A” which dented the visitors’ chances of finishing as runners-up in Division Four.
On Wednesday, Cavendish, with the scores level at one apiece, overcame Boxted Lodgers, five-three on penalties, to book their place in the Tommy Thompson Cup-Final, this will be against Bradfield Rovers on Friday 22nd May and will be played at Coggeshall Town FC.
Last Friday evening was the final of the Knock-Out Cup, between Cressing United and Great Bentley, again this was played at Coggeshall Town, with the scores level at ninety minutes the tie went to penalty kicks with Great Bentley winning by four goals to two, this means the team has done the double having been crowned Premier Division champions last weekend.
What a season it has been for Great Bentley, this club joined the ESBFL in season 1925-1926 for an unbroken stay of one hundred years, this season they are winners of the Premier Division and the Knock Out Cup, their Reserves lost in the Reserve Cup Final and their “A” team finished as runners-up in Division Three and were losing finalists in the Richard Degville Cup.
Saturday had just two league matches, in Division Three, third placed, Mersea Island drew with Silver End United Reserves and in Division Four, Champions, Frinton & Walton Reserves visited runners-up, Hedinghams United Reserves and won by three goals to one, after the match conclusion, both teams were awarded their respective trophies by League Secretary, Alison Stanford.
