Congratulations go to Great Bentley who have won the Premier Division, a win by any scoreline was wanted and they managed that, scoring four without response against Sudbury Sports, this means Thorpe Athletic finish a commendable second, albeit on goal difference, East Thurrock Community also ended with a narrow win over Earls Colne to secure third place in a division that has been one of the closest for some time.

On Saturday, in the final of Richard Degville Cup, Mersea Island overcame Great Bentley “A” by the only goal scored in a tight match played at Harwich & Parkeston FC, this victory for the Islanders sent the statisticians running to look when Mersea Island (First) last won a cup, the answer was the Knock-Out Cup in 1978-79 and again in 1979/80 when they won the Premier Division as well.

There were more mid-week matches last week, on Tuesday, Cressing United Reserves beat West Bergholt who have finished ninth and fifth respectively in Division Two. There were two matches in Division Four, Stanway Rovers EVL Development finished their only season with a win over Bradfield Rovers Reserves whilst at the top, Hedinghams United Reserves beat Kelvedon Social to move above Roman Rovers “A” into second place, albeit on goal difference, with two matches remaining.

Wednesday had two matches in Division Three, one was a local derby, Oyster were beaten by Mersea Island who move up to third but can’t catch second placed Great Bentley “A” who drew with Boxted Lodgers and received their runners-up trophy after the match. In Division Four in another local derby, Wormingford Wanderers Reserves drew with West Bergholt Reserves and finally Tollesbury (three for Knill-Jones) beat Ramsey & Mistley.

On Saturday, Division Two, champions, Bradfield Rovers (three for Allington), finished their successful campaign with a four-goals to nil win against Great Bradfords who have finished bottom.

Three matches were played in Division Four, mid-table Wormingford Wanderers Reserves beat third bottom Tendring District scoring five without reply, Rayne will finish fourth in their first season, this after beating West Bergholt Reserves by four goals to nil and Hedinghams United Reserves stay second, after beating Tollesbury by six goals to nil.

The Knock-Out Cup Final between Cressing United FC and Great Bentley FC, will be played on Friday 15^th May 2026 at Coggeshall Town FC, Kick-Off is 19:45pm.
