Hatfield Peverel v Gas Recreation
Hatfield Peverel welcomed Gas Recreation to the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground on this Saturday afternoon. The hosts are currently sitting in 3rd on 26 points after having played 2 more games than the visitors and who are 4th on 25 points.
Peveral got us underway but it was the visitors who made a lightning start to the game, scoring first on 6 minutes. Harry Willoughby received the ball up 30 yards out turned and fired a high, powerful shot at goal which flew over Peveral keeper Bates and into the back of the net.
Hatfield Peverel 0-1 Gas Recreation!
Two minutes later and Gas should have doubled their lead. A poor defensive header by Peverel’s Willis saw Recreation’s Dale get through on goal only to hit his half-volley wide of the post. The Gas were very much on top and 15 minutes in, Willoughby almost scored another screamer. He picked the ball up around 30 yards out after finding a bit of space and shot but this time it sailed over the bar. Hatfield began to get into the game and had a great chance to equalise. Lawrence Hale picked the ball up on the half way line, cut away from the defender, looked up and found the run of Callum Knightsbridge who went through on goal. Knightsbridge then cut in and got a shot away but it was weak and easy for Gas keeper Mahoney. With 19 minutes on the clock Gas were almost 2-0 up. Bulmer, twisting and turning away from his man, played a fantastic through ball to the run of Willoughby who, after touching the ball well out his feet, fired at goal but was denied after a brilliant save by Bates.
Gas then were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Bulmer stepped over it and hit a powerful shot at goal which Bates was equal to and parried it out to safety. With 23 minutes on the clock, Gas were awarded for their pressure and doubled their lead. Dale won the ball in the middle of the Hatfield half before laying it off to Bulmer who fired at goal, his shot deflected off defender Grimsey and fell underneath the crossbar and over the white line!
Hatfield Peverel 0-2 Gas Recreational!
With half time approaching, Hatfield could’ve grabbed a huge goal back and almost did when a free kick was swung in, missed by everyone but a slight touch meant it went the wrong side of the post.
HT: Hatfield Peverel 0-2 Gas Recreation
The second half began and Hatfield came close to getting a goal back. A long throw into the box was scrambled about and fell to Knightsbridge who fired his shot wide of the post. On 51 minutes Gas had a 3rd thanks to some shoddy defending. Luke Taylor with a ball into the box from a corner was headed poorly and on the volley Bulmer came and smashed it home into the top right corner, leaving the keeper stranded.
Hatfield Peverel 0-3 Gas Recreation!
Hatfield were then awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Hale stepped over it and curled it round the wall but just past the post. Gas then had a great chance to go 4-0 up. A long ball up by Maloney was touched down brilliantly by Bulmer who turned and fired at goal from 30 yards which cleared the bar.
Jack Stoneman then had a chance from his own making. He got past two Hatfield players really well and fired a powerful shot at goal but the Hatfield keeper was well positioned to save it. Hatfield’s Cooper then went close with a low powerful effort at goal which just went wide of the post.
Willoughby then lined up a free kick 30-35 yards out. He ran up and fired a magnificent, powerful effort which just went over the bar. Fantastic effort!
Willoughby then had his second shortly after. A short corner from Asten Firkens to brother Calvin Firkens who delivered a fantastic ball into the box for Willoughby to get his head onto and finish home.
Hatfield Peverel 0-4 Gas Recreation!
Gas Recreation were then down to 10 men after Jack Gregory received a second yellow card. Straight from the free kick, Hatfield were then awarded a penalty. Grimsey with a long ball upfield to Invine but he was blatantly pushed in the back. Hale stepped up and slotted home bottom right.
Hatfield Peverel 1-4 Gas Recreational!
Late into stoppage time Gas had a 5th. A scrappy clearance fell to Dale on the edge of the box who slotted home, bottom right.
Hatfield Peverel 1-5 Gas Recreation.
And with that the referee blew up for full time.
FT: Hatfield Peverel 1-5 Gas Recreation
Great result for Gas who move up to 3rd place. Hatfield move down to 5th place and will be disappointed with the result. Gas were by far the better side and deserved the points.
