ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2024 / 2025

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       19/10/2024.

Whilst the Premier Division was scheduled to have a full fixture list, the majority of, the remaining divisional teams were involved in Cup Competitions.

Seven matches were scheduled in the Premier Division, leaders Kings Park Rangers stood idle as their pitch was declared unfit, this allowed Brightlingsea Town to go top after beating “away-day” travellers, East Thurrock Community. Thorpe Athletic hit nine (five for Barnard), against White Notley and stay third ahead of Earls Colne who scored seven (three for Carr), Cressing United edged out Alresford Colne Rangers, Hatfield Peverel scored one without reply against Belle Vue Social whilst Tiptree Heath got their first point when drawing against Dedham Old Boys, their eighth draw!

Division One had seen one match played, under floodlights, on Friday evening, Little Oakley FC Reserves being held at home by Frinton & Walton. Boxted Lodgers FC have withdrawn from this division, their record will be expunged in due course.

Two matches took place in Division Two, Earls Colne Reserves thumped Great Bentley Reserves, scoring five without replay, to go top and Dedham Old Boys Reserves won in a close match at Boxford Rovers.

Division Three also had two matches, Barnston Reserves beat Elmstead Market, to stay fourth and fifth placed West Bergholt won against third placed Great Bentley “A” to leave four teams on sixteen points.

Six teams were in action in Division Four, Boxted Lodgers Reserves, Silver End United Reserves and West Bergholt Reserves all winning.

Sadly, Sudbury Sports bowed out of the Suffolk Senior Cup away to Whitton United of the Thurlow Nunn competition.

The Tommy Thompson Cup had twelve ties, one fell foul, of tidal situation at Mersea Island, those teams that progress are: Assington Stanley, Cressing United Reserves (three for Miller {D}), Gas Recreation Reserves (four for Bethell {F}), Hatfield Peverel Reserves (on penalties), Prettygate, Roman Rovers, Kelvedon Social, Tavern, Tendring Borough (three for Coyle), Tendring District, Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves, White Notley Reserves (three for Prosser) and Harwich & Parkeston “A”.

The Peter Andrews Charity Cup should have had three matches, this is for Division One teams only, one was postponed because of the weather, however, Gas Recreation, Great Bentley (three for Vaughan), and Lawford Lads progress.
