ESBFL – WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 20/04/2024.
Congratulations go to Cavendish FC who played Ipswich Vale Exiles in the remaining Suffolk Primary Cup semi-final, they won by two goals to nil and will play Redgrave Rangers on 30th April 2024, the match is at Colchester United FC.
Mid-week matches started in earnest last week, there were league wins for Roman Rovers, Great Bradfords, (three for Postil) and Ramsey & Mistley on Tuesday when Hedinghams United progressed in the Tommy Thompson Cup.
Wednesday evening had eight matches, there were Premier Division wins for Tiptree Heath, Silver End United and White Notley, Great Bentley drew at FC Clacton Reserves in Division One, Gas Recreation Reserves maintained their late charge in Division Three and Stillwaters kept pace with the leaders in Division Four. Flitch United turned the tables on Gosfield United in the COVID Cup, (three for Mason) and Bradfield Rovers, (three for Garrad) beat Dedham Old Boys Reserves in the Tommy Thompson Cup.
Saturday saw the Knock-Out Cup semi-finals being played, both had a Premier Division team playing a Division One team, Stanway Rovers Community Reserves, (three for Lewis) beat Kings Park Rangers whilst Thorpe Athletic beat Earls Colne, the final is scheduled for Friday 3rd May 2024 at Little Oakley FC.
The Premier Division had three matches involving teams at the top end, champions, Colne Athletic hit seven in their last match, (three for both Blanchett and Dale), Tiptree Heath stay second after beating Alresford Colne Rangers, fourth placed Brightlingsea Town got the better of third placed Silver End United, but Saturday’s losers have four games remaining needing six points to become runners-up.
Cressing United moved up to third, and could go higher, in Division One after they beat Tiptree Jobserve and Great Bentley jumped two places after beating lowly Tavern.
In the four matches in Division Two, White Notley Reserves stay second after beating third placed Frinton & Walton which allowed Gas Recreation jump up to third after they beat Roman Rovers. Hatfield Peverel Reserves hit five against a depleted Colne Athletic Reserves and in the basement battle, Tiptree Jobserve Reserves shared the points with Cornard United Reserves.
Gosfield United stay top of Division Three after beating Gas Recreation Reserves, Little Oakley Reserves beat Great Bentley Reserves, but the day’s top scorers were Flitch United who hit eleven against plucky Tollesbury.
There were six matches in Division Four, most teams are playing catch-up, basement teams FC Clacton “A” and Abbey Fields shared eight goals, Boxford Rovers, Great Bradfords, Oyster and Silver End United Reserves all won but The Rodings Reserves march on, another win took them six points clear with seven games to play!
Division Five is almost finished, there were two games, none affected the top three, Brooklands, (three for Lodge) beat bottom team Ramsey & Mistley Reserves and Mersea island Reserves can still make fourth place after beating the current incumbents, Boxted Lodgers Reserves.
Dedham Old Boys Reserves played Stillwaters in the first COVID Cup semi-final and won by three goals to one setting up a final against either Prettygate or Flitch United who meet next weekend.
