Essex & Suffolk Round – Up 20th November 2021.
It was a successful day for the Border League in the Essex Premier Cup that saw five of our six remaining sides progress to the last 16. There were some strong performances, but for Chelmsford City FC Reserves a heartbreak conclusion at Tiptree Heath FC.
Firstly, the unbeaten Premier League leaders Stanway Pegasus FC travelled to the resplendent Ford Sports & Social Club at Newbury Park, where in “extra-time” they triumphed 2-1 against Toby FC from the First Division of the Essex Olympian League.
In the fourth round they will travel again, away to Old Southendians Fc or Harold Wood Athletic FC Reserves.
Another notable success was at Ford Lane where Alresford Colne Rangers FC having previously disposed of Witham Town FC Reserves, hosted Concord Rangers FC Reserves whom they beat 3-1.
‘Rangers’ have been rewarded with a home draw against Tiptree Heath FC in the fourth round. The Tiptree side overcame Chelmsford City FC Reserves 10-9 on penalties after the tie resulted 3-3 at the final whistle.
Colne Athletic FC had a more comfortable win beating DT FC, from the Essex Alliance League, 4-1. ‘Athletic’ will now take their place in the fourth round where they will host the strong Catholic United FC side.
Dunmow Town FC went through at Cressing Road with a fine 2-0 win over Essex Senior Reserve league side Frenford Senior FC Reserves, who were on an unbeaten run of five matches.
Dunmow FC will now have another home tie against May & Baker ECA or Woodford East FC.
All 4thround ties are due to be played on 8th January 2022.
In the Premier Division there were only five matches, but they had little impact at the top of the table, although West Bergholt FC passed up an opportunity to take closer order in terms of points.
Earls Colne FC was the visitors to Lorkin Daniel Field and came away with creditable 0-0 draw. ‘Bergholt’ remain firmly in third place three points behind leaders Stanway Pegasus FC having played three games more.
Hatfield Peverel FC gained a crucial three points beating Little Oakley FC Reserves 4-2 at the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground to slightly ease their worries.
At Dellwood Avenue, Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s picked up an excellent point against visitors Sudbury Sports FC sharing the spoils in a 1-1 draw, but still remain in dire trouble just two points ahead of basement side Lawford Lads FC.
The ‘Lads’ got no joy from their visit to Dedham Old Boys FC going down to the solitary goal of the game.
In Division One Belle Vue Social FC were humbled at home by Gosfield United FC losing their first league game 2-1, and therefore made no inroads on leaders Stanway Rovers FC U23s who were without a game. They are now three points behind, but have a game in hand, although have a much inferior goal difference.
The clash between third place Tiptree Jobserve FC and fifth position Cressing United FC ended all square in a 1-1 draw.
In Division Two, Brightlingsea Town FC’s relentless pursuit of the Second Division title shows no signs of abating with yet another crushing victory this time at Hedinghams United FC, whom they beat away 7-0. Ricky Griggs hit a hat trick whilst Adam Drysdale scored a brace and Byron Hatch and Joseph Nicholls completed the scoring.
At Cage Lane second place Thorpe Athletic FC beat Boxted Lodgers FC 2-1 and Kelvedon Social FC in third spot also hit seven on the road without reply at luckless Lawford Lads FC Reserves.
