WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 25/02/2023
So where do we stand after two months of the New Year, Dunmow Town and Tiptree Heath maintain their top two status, both won again on the road, Earls Colne shared the points with Colne Athletic which allowed Brantham Athletic Reserves to move into third spot. At the bottom, welcome points for White Notley but West Bergholt and Lawford both lost. On Friday evening Sudbury Sports and Chelmsford City Reserves played out a draw, two goals apiece.
Bottom team, Harwich & Parkeston Reserves were on Knock-Out Cup duty but lost to the Division One home team. over on Great Bentley Green.
In Division One, there were seven goals scored by both Brightlingsea Town, three for Sauka, and Gosfield United, whilst Silver End United ground out a solitary goal victory at Cressing to stay second, ten points adrift but with three games in hand. Elsewhere, lowly Cavendish and Thorpe Athletic, three for Eaton, got back to winning ways against, Stanway Pegasus Reserves and FC Clacton Reserves respectively.
Division Two leaders were without a game but the other six saw victories for Boxted Lodges, (3rd), Mersea Island (4th), three for Mahon, Hedinghams United, (5th) and Colne Athletic Reserves, and away wins for St Osyth and Tavern who stay second.
The only league game in Division Three saw a last gasp winner for Frinton & Walton away at Great Bradfords.
Only one league game was played in Division Four with Kelvedon Social Reserves hitting five against bottom team Hedinghams United Reserves.
Division five saw victories for Boxted Lodgers Reserves, Gas Recreation Reserves, who had six different scorers in their tally of eight and Roman Rovers Reserves who hit nine, seven scorers with three for Wyatt, against gallant Ramsey & Mistley Reserves who have conceded one hundred and thirty-five goals! Second placed Oyster had no game but are the only team, so far, to have scored over hundred goals.
This week also saw the first round of the Covid Cup, a competition for teams in the bottom three divisions, nine ties were played and alphabetically the following teams moved into the next round, Abbey Fields, Cavendish Reserves, Gas Recreation Reserves, High Roding, three for Burgess, Flitch United, Prettygate, Roman Rovers, three for Jones, Stillwaters and Tendring District.
