26/09/2026 – Weekly Round-Up

ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE           2026 / 2027

WEEKLY ROUND UP      @      26/09/2026.

There were one hundred & seventy-nine goals in the forty matches that were scheduled for last Saturday, two matches were in the Reserve Knock Out Cup, there, Witham Town Development beat Dedham Old Boys Reserves and West Bergholt Reserves beat Elmstead Market Reserves whilst Gas Recreation Reserves progress as Great Baddow Reserves have withdrawn from the competition, likewise Bradfield Rovers Reserves whose opposition failed to raise a team!

In the Premier Division there are no unbeaten teams, and every team has won at least once, Hatfield Peverel and Thorpe Athletic sit at the top after single goal victories, White Notley, AFC Pegasus Reserves, Gas Recreation and Springfield also won but nothing separated the teams in the Alresford Colne Rangers (2) versus Gosfield United (2) and Tiptree Heath (4) versus Stanway Rovers Reserves (4) matches.

Wivenhoe Town Reserves stay top in Division One, closely followed by unbeaten Springfield Reserves, Silver End United drop a place after losing to Hatfield Peverel Reserves for whom it was a first win of the season, but Cavendish were the top scorers with eight against winless Dovercourt Rovers, Hedinghams United also remain without a win when losing against Birchanger Athletic and Bradfield Rovers lost against Roman Rovers.

Division Two had seven matches and forty-seven goals, Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves hit eight (four for Foran) against unpredictable Stillwaters, Mayland Village scored six (three for Dance), Tiptree Jobserve managed five and their opposition Sudbury Sports Reserves, four in a high scoring match. Frinton & Walton scored five and stay third behind Colchester Tekkers who managed four, as did top team, West Bergholt, in their seven straight league win. The final game saw Cressing United Reserves get the better of struggling Boxford Rovers and reverse the result from the first match of the season, strangely Boxford Rovers have also played the division leaders twice as well!

There were five matches in Division Three North, Oyster top the table after beating Wivenhoe United, local rivals Mersea Island scored seven to the four of a strengthened Prettygate Reserve team (three for Boyle), third placed Boxted Lodgers beat Elmstead Market but second placed White Notley Reserves could only draw with unbeaten Wormingford Wanderers. Elsewhere, Roman Rovers Reserves gained their first win, this over previously unbeaten Essex Students.

Eversley Athletic found their shooting boots in Division Three South, hitting eight (three each for both Eaves and Gore {O}), to the three in reply from Witham Town Reserves, Great Bradfords seem to be enjoying playing in this new division, they beat Hedinghams United Reserves to leapfrog inactive, Rayne. Essex Royals beat Stock United and Springfield Development got the better of Emerson & Upminster Reserves whilst Baddow Athletic drew with Beaulieu Park.

Three, was the number in Division Four North as six of the eight teams scored “three” apiece, Ramsey & Mistley beat Kelvedon Social and Tollesbury beat Rayne Reserves, both by three goals to one. The two other matches, Tendring Borough versus Tendring Rovers and Weeley versus Brooklands, top versus bottom, were drawn the teams sharing six goals in each match.

There was a mixed bag of results in the three matches in Division Four South, a home win for Writtle, an away win for Broomfield “A”, and a draw between Beacon Hill Rovers Reserves and MATES.
