ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE            2026 / 2027

WEEKLY ROUND UP       @       19/09/2026.

With this week’s focus on the two main Cup competitions, leagues matches for teams not involved were scarce!

There was one drawn match in the Premier Division, this was between fifth placed, Earls Colne and their seventh placed neighbours Cressing United.

Division Two had just one match as well where Lawford Lads beat Springfield U23’s by four goals to one, a game preceded by a minute’s silence for Noah Woods the young boy who sadly, after going missing, lost his life in Brantham last week.

Division Three South saw Stock United get the better of Springfield Reserves in a match that had a late change of venue, these must be communicated through the correct channels!

Two matches were completed in Division Four North, second placed, Elmstead Market Reserves (three for Rose {T}), beat Tiptree Jobserve Reserves and top team, Weeley, three wins from three, beat Dedham Old Boys Reserves by the odd goal in seven, in the equivalent South division, Beacon Hill Rovers Reserves beat Witham Town “A” to go top of the table after just two games.

Sudbury Sports dropped out of the Suffolk Senior Cup when beaten by Stowupland Falcons, they trailed by five goals to one at half time only to lose by five goals to four by full-time.

The first matches in the Reserve Knock-Out Cup took place with the Reserve teams from Alresford Colne Rangers, Cressing United, Roman Rovers and Sudbury Sports all progressed as did White Notley Reserves whose opponents had insufficient players to raise a team.

Knock-Out Cup holders, Great Bentley progressed, as their opposition called off, as did teams in six other ties, most citing the inability to raise a team, this season the competition has almost three thousand registered players, which is roughly thirty per team, so where are all these spare players, however, on a positive note, one Club, Springfield FC run four teams and they all played on Saturday!

In no particular order, the following teams played and won to progress; Prettygate., Mersea Island., Stanway Rovers Reserves., West Bergholt., Bradfield Rovers., Broomfield “A”., Springfield., Clacton Regent., Mayland Village., White Notley (three for Agar)., Elmstead Market., Essex Royals., AFC Pegasus Colchester Reserves., Frinton & Walton., Thorpe Athletic., Oyster., Silver End United (three for Coney)., Emerson & Upminster (three for Stringer)., Wormingford Wanderers (four each for Bacon and Dyer)., Wivenhoe Town Reserves (three for Ogbonna-Kalu), their opposition, Essex Students scored four (three for Garnai-Davies)., Roman Rovers., The Rodings & Waltham and Hatfield Peverel. The other teams that progress through default are; Baddow Spartak., Birchanger Athletic., Gosfield United., Earls Colne., Hedinghams United and Alresford Colne Rangers.
