Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 31st August 2019.
In the Premier Division the two bottom clubs emerged from the doldrums to pick up their first points of the season whilst champions Gas Recreation FC were beaten for the second time at once fortress Bromley Road. West Bergholt FC continued to progress with an away win whilst Tiptree Heath FC moved to the summit.
Earls Colne FC’s Ronnie Edwards scored a hat trick at the Brantham Leisure Centre, but all to no avail as the Athletic Reserves gained their first win in a seven goal, thriller winning 4-3.
Flitch United FC also were involved in an exciting match gaining their first success of the season beating Little Oakley FC Reserves 4-3. James Oates, Shane Pyne, Stephen Smith and Mathew Wickham put a smile on the faces of the Stebbing side. Ross Brazitis, Harry Harvey and Robert Pratt replied for the visitors,
Last season’s Premier runners up Tiptree Heath FC are now in poll position with a 2-0 victory at much improved Barnston AFC. Benjamin Turner and Cameron Ward were on target.
They hold a point lead over second place Stanway Pegasus FC who won at the Keith Bigden Memorial ground with a solitary goal against Hatfield Peverel FC.
Nicholas Bolingbroke inflicted a second defeat of Gas Recreation FC as Lawford Lads FC picked up the points following successive defeats. ‘Gas’ have dropped to 5th in the table.
West Bergholt FC have recovered from their poor start winning at Tiptree Engaine FC 3-1 with goals from Gareth Gibson, Liam Springett and David Weir. Jack Szmodics hit the consolation goal. It’s now seven points from their last three games for Gareth Gibson’s side.
There were goals a plenty on the Village Green as Great Bentley FC continued to impress and moved into fourth place with a fine 5-2 win over visiting Dedham Old Boys FC. They are becoming prolific scorers having hit the net seventeen times already this season. On target were Dale Brown, Charlie Durling, Joseph Hurd, Louis Olymbios and Jake Vaughan whilst John Vitelli replied with a brace.
In Division One a creditable away win for Gosfield United FC beating previously unbeaten, and former leaders, Cressing United FC, 1-0 with Liam Bowman getting the important goal.
FC Clacton Reserves had a fine win 2-0 at Bures United with goals from Cameron Dolphin whilst Bell Vue Social FC were victorious at Little Oakley FC “A”. Joshua Chapman and Josh Grimes were on target for the visitors with Gary Stanford replying.
Mersea Island FC will be delighted to have opened their account with a 3-1 win at The Glebe over Boxted Lodgers FC, Sebastian Bethell, Dan Gibbons and James Rutter on target with a reply from Christopher Lavender.
Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves maintained their perfect start beating Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves 3-1 whilst Sudbury Sports FC proved far too strong for Wormingford Wanderers FC winning 11-0. Jake Banyard, Shane Temple and Jake Horlock each scored twice with the remaining goals from Alfie Adams, Joseph Gunn, Owen Lennie, Edward Penn and Jack Palmer.
Tiptree Jobserve FC moved into second spot following a 2-0 win at Stanway Rovers FC Reserves at The Hawthorns with goals from Tommy Gregory and Glen Wiggett and Colne Athletic FC are third having beaten West Bergholt FC Reserves 4-0 with Luke Rogers leading the way with a hat trick and Daniel Bradley completed the scoring.
In Division Two, Shrub End United FC continue to lead the way with their fourth straight win and have opened up a five-point lead. Ryan Amass scored in a tight match against Tiptree Engaine FC Reserves.
