Essex & Suffolk Border League Round – Up 26th September 2020.
White Notley FC and Gas Recreation FC share leadership of the Border League Premier Division remaining with a perfect start to the campaign, both sides have a goal difference of eleven but ‘Notley’ are top by virtue of scoring more goals.
Certainly, the leaders are the surprise entertainers with 17 goals and another four at Barnston highlights there credentials in this fledging table. There marksmen were Rory Bone, Peter Falco, Regan Farley-Hearn and Robert King.
At Bromley Road, ‘Gas’ made light work of struggling Felixstowe & Walton United FC Reserves with a comfortable 4-1 victory with two goals each from Callum Rogers and Shane Goodyear and a consolation for the seasiders from Kadir Akbaba.
Meanwhile Great Bentley FC and West Bergholt FC remain the other two unbeaten sides having won three and drawn one.
‘Bentley’ might again be ‘dark horses’ following their exploits last season where had the season not concluded early, they may well have taken the title, the 2-0 win at Dedham Old Boys FC currently ensures third spot.
West Bergholt FC had an indifferent season last term but are seemingly ‘live’ contenders again with three successive wins following there opening draw against Great Bentley FC. Goals came from Lewis Blanchett, Liam Close, Liam Springett and substitute Lee Townrow set them up for a crushing 4-0 win at Ford Lane beating Alresford Colne Rangers FC, who were enduring a third successive defeat.
There was a major surprise at Tollshunt Darcy Village Hall that saw Brantham Athletic FC Reserves beat Tiptree Heath FC 4-2 after four successive defeats, three by the odd goal. They have moved up to fifteenth place in the table. The “Tiptree” goals were scored by James Chesney and Charlie Green.
Elsewhere there were two goal-less draws, Lawford Lads FC were held by Flitch United FC, and Earls Colne FC were unable to break down visiting Little Oakley FC Reserves.
Sudbury Sports FC were held to a 1-1 draw at Colne Athletic FC with a goal from Luke Hipkin whilst Jack Burch netted for “Colne”.
In the First Division, Belle Vue Social FC lead the way having won their opening four games and remain the only side with a 100% record. They beat struggling Cressing United FC 3-0 through strikes from Joshua Chapman, Bruce Poole and an own goal. Meanwhile second place Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves followed their mid-week 2-2 draw at FC Clacton Reserves with an 8-1 thrashing of Holland “A”. They have now scored 21 goals in total thus far and on Saturday were well served with a hat trick from Kieran Radford and the remaining goals shared by Robert Cant, Robert Czapla, Ross Nash, Roger Smith and substitute Alex Akinola.
There was a goal feast at Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves who ended defeated 5-3 by third place Tiptree Jobserve FC. Bradley Beevis struck twice and Leighton Galvin for the home side.
Boxted Lodgers FC opened their account with a solitary goal win at the Lorkin Daniel Field beating West Bergholt FC Reserves, having lost their first three matches. Jack Keeble delivered the points.
In Division Two the early pacesetters Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves, maintained their grip at the summit with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Royal Oak over Oyster FC, with goals from Elliot Fay, Leslie Lewis and Daniel Roots.
Lawford Lads FC Reserves remain unbeaten and are in fourth place following a 2-1 win at Stanway Athletic FC with goals from Daniel Edwards and Harry Parkes and a response from William Cursons.
In Division Three, leaders Thorpe Athletic FC were too powerful for plucky Hedinghams United FC Reserves. The basement side deserve much credit having conceded 39 goals in their opening four matches, and the only consolation was there reply, scored by Charlie Whalley. Meanwhile there were four goals each for Bailey Barnard and James Shuttlewood, two for Kalon Harms and a goal a piece for Mathew Gray and Harry Hulstrom.
In Division Four, Frinton & Walton FC march on inflicting a heavy defeat on Boxted Lodgers FC Reserves 7-1 to maintain top spot. Two hat tricks from George Giltinane and Joshua Lake and one from Max Chesney secured the win. Vinny Flynn got the consolation goal.
