Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 10th October 2020.
Tiptree Heath FC had an emphatic Premier Division win at home to Lawford Lads FC winning 4-0, after two successive defeats, to get there season back on track. They are now mid-table and will be looking for some consistency to make an impression on the chasing pack. 1-0 at half time ‘Heath’ imposed themselves in the second half with their goals coming from James Chesney, Charlie Green, Benjamin Turner and Cameron Ward.
Gas Recreation FC consolidated their position at the top with a comfortable win at Bromley Road beating Little Oakley FC Reserves 3-1 to stretch their lead by four points. Harry Hewes, Callum Rogers and Luke Taylor were on target for Dean West’s championship chasers, whilst Calum Green replied for ‘Oakley’.
Colne Athletic FC have moved into second place following an excellent win at home to West Bergholt FC to remain unbeaten in there last four matches. On target were Luke Goldie-McSorley and Harry Watts. This ended ‘Bergholt’s’ fine start to the season and their four-match winning sequence.
Great Bentley FC gained redemption from last week’s set back with a 5-2 victory at Hatfield Peverel FC to climb to third spot five points off the leaders ‘Gas’ with a game in hand.
Stanway Pegasus FC stormed to a 6-4 win over visiting White Notley FC to take their goal tally to ten in two games and record their third successive success. After such a bright start to the season ‘Notley’ have stuttered to 6th place in spite of the efforts of there goal scorers Robbie Bennett, Ryan Farley-Hearn and a Rory Bone brace. ‘Pegasus’ are six points adrift but have two games in hand on the leaders.
Alresford Colne Rangers FC won on the road at Barnston AFC 2-1. ‘Rangers’ have struggled to win in their four previous games but have now moved to a mid-table position with this timely success. Meanwhile Barnston AFC remain pointless and rock bottom.
Another struggling side, Flitch United FC, earned a good point at Earls Colne FC and climbed a place to 16th still looking for their first win. It was 1-1 and the home side, rescued by substitute Jake Horlock, were recording there fourth draw of the season.
There was only one Division One match that saw Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves beat Coggeshall United FC Reserves 2-0 with goals from Jack Gilson–Slater and Daniel Shaikly to move to 6th in the table.
There were plenty of ties in the first round of the Essex Junior Cup involving Border league sides with three knocking out teams from other leagues.
There was a feisty battle at Harlow FC where DT FC from the Essex Alliance League, Premier Division entertained ambitious Dunmow Town FC, there seemed much controversy during the game, but Dunmow Town FC went through 2-1.
Felsted Rovers AFC rose to the challenge of visiting unbeaten Bocas Jogabonito FC from the Herts & District league and dispatched their opponents 6-0.
Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves travelled to Mayland Village from the Mid-Essex, Premier Division and ran out 2-0 winners with goals from Lee Barnes and Roger Smith.
There were plenty of Border league clashes that included the following ties:
Lawford Lads FC Reserves beat Hedinghams United FC 3-0 with a brace from Daniel Edwards and one from Jamie Reid. Mersea Island FC went through at the expense of Kelvedon Social FC “A” with goals from Lewis Ayton and Dan Gibbons and Silver End United FC got through beating Wormingford Wanderers FC after extra time. It was 2-2 after 90 minutes, but “United” prevailed with two added goals.
There was a good win for Rowhedge FC who narrowly beat hosts West Bergholt FC Reserves 3-2 and were indebted to Tom Labelle, Thomas Lepage and Brendan Home. Andreas Antonious and Cameron Dolphin were on target for FC Clacton Reserves who beat Great Bentley FC Reserves, whilst Belle Vue Social FC maintained their 100% record with a 4-1 win over Stanway Rovers FC Reserve, courtesy of Joshua Chapman, Ryan Debenham, Josh Grimes and Bruce Poole.
Boxted Lodgers FC travelled to Tolleshunt Darcy and scored an impressive 4-1 against Tiptree Heath FC Reserves with goals from Paul Goddard substitute Jack Keeble and A brace from Tommy Cant.
Barnston AFC Reserves maintained their great start to the season getting through by overwhelming hosts Little Clacton FC 6-1. On target was Lee Jarvis–Brown. James Bolandi. James McLaughlin and Ross Cook who bagged a hat trick.
Elsewhere, Sporting Rebels FC and Langham Lodgers FC progressed to the second round.
In Division Two, Cavendish FC beat previously unbeaten leaders Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves 4-1 to narrow the gap to four points with two games in hand. Addy Ray and Haydn Taylor both netted twice.
