Promoted from the First Division, Colne Athletic FC have made an impressive start to senior football in the Premier, having taken 17 points from their opening eight matches, and are in second place.
On Saturday it was there fifth win beating Flitch United FC 2-0 at Bayard Recreation Ground, with goals from Harry Watts and Scott Yearling. As for Flitch United FC, they are still looking for their first win from six matches and are languishing in 16th spot.
Already Gas Recreation FC are reinforcing their credentials with their 7th win from eight to lead the Premier table by four points, indeed it looks ominous for the chasing pack with this latest win up the A12 at Hatfield Peverel FC recording a 2-0 margin. Kyle Bergin and Callum Rogers struck the goals with Rogers now the joint leading Premier scorer, having notched eight goals.
West Bergholt FC roared back to form following their first defeat last week, they occupy third place following a comprehensive 4-1 win at the Lorkin Daniel Field against visiting Tiptree Heath FC whose consolation goal was scored by Joe Chester.
Fourth placed Great Bentley FC hosting Little Oakley FC Reserves slipped up on The Green sharing six goals in a 3-3 draw.
Alresford Colne Rangers FC have regained momentum following an earlier lapse in form by defeating White Notley FC 3-0 at Ford Lane and now occupy sixth spot. In contrast ‘Notley’ after such an excellent start, four successive wins, have now succumbed to their third straight loss, and are rapidly losing ground.
Sudbury Sports FC, who have only played five games, have moved to mid table following an easy win against Lawford Lads FC 5-0 at the Mel Group Stadium. On target for the Suffolk side were Joshua Ambrose, Kasey Brannan, Jack Palmer, Josh Stokes and Jake Banyard who was recording his seventh league goal of the campaign.
Elsewhere Dedham Old Boys FC held fifth place Stanway Pegasus FC to a 1-1 draw at the Duchy Field.
There were two first round Essex Premier cup ties that saw both teams eliminated, firstly Earls Colne put up a good fight but went down 2-1 at Billericay Town FC Reserves with the consolation goal from Keiran Adams. Barnston who are still looking for their first success of the season forced Shoeburyness Town FC to extra time before losing out on penalties. It was 2-2 after 90 minutes but were beaten 6-5 on spot kicks.
In Division One the surprise leaders Belle Vue Social FC, made it six straight wins at Shrub End Sports Ground, defeating FC Clacton Reserves 2-0 who were reduced to 10 men following the straight red card administered by referee Lee Miller. Belle Vue hold a three-point lead over second place Dunmow Town FC who were without a game.
The only other Division One side remaining unbeaten are Tiptree Jobserve FC who put four past Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves without reply and are comfortably placed with a game in hand on their close rivals.
There was a good 3-0 win for Cressing United FC at Eastcliff Playing Fields, defeating Holland FC “A” with goals from Craig Copas, Daniel Miller and substitute Andrew French.
Silver End United FC had a comfortable win over Gosfield United FC, 4-1 and sixth placed Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves easily beat Hedinghams United FC 4-0, their marksmen being George Barren, Leighton Galvin and a brace from Kane Elliott.
Stanway Rovers FC Reserves heaped more misery for Boxted Lodgers winning 3-1. Lodgers are now 16th with three points.
In Division Two, Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves consolidated at the top by winning 4-2 at The Royal Oak against Tiptree Jobserve FC Reserves, whilst second place Cavendish FC travelled to St Osyth winning 4-1. The visitors were helped when referee Mr John Magill awarded early baths to the hosts for Messrs Bourne and Garey.
In Division Three, Thorpe Athletic FC maintain their great start to Border League football with a 3-0 win against Barnston AFC Reserves. The division’s leading scorer Bailey Barnard was again amongst the goals with a hat trick bringing his tally to 13.
Second placed, Flitch United FC Reserves hit 10 against luckless Hedinghams United FC Reserves with goals from Edward Killin, Will Gale, Alex Cannon and hat tricks from both Charlie Gilbert and Paul Layzell.
However, full marks to “Hedinghams” spirit, sportsmanship and commitment as they struggle on despite there hefty defeats in conceding 49 goals in five games!
In Division Four, leaders Frinton & Walton struck the net 21 times in demolishing a plucky Parkeston Welfare Care Park FC who have conceded 57 goals to date.
Referee, Wendy Townsend was full of praise for the Parkeston side and gave credit to both teams. She confirmed the winners were a class act, but the visiting side fought hard to the end playing in the right spirit, in spite of the heavy defeat. Well done guys.
