Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 24th October 2020.
In the Premier Division, Great Bentley FC moved into third place with a convincing 4-0 win over Dedham Old Boys FC and are amongst five teams that have been beaten just once in what may well be an open title race this season.
There were four drawn matches including draw specialists Earls Colne FC’s excellent point at Ford Lane against Alresford Colne Rangers FC where both sides shared six goals.
Perhaps the surprise was the two points dropped by leaders Gas Recreation FC at Bromley Road where Lawford Lads FC picked a welcome point in another six-goal thriller.
On target for the home side were Callum Rogers with two, increasing his overall tally to nine, and one each for Shane Goodyear and Aston Firkins. Lawford’s deserved point came through goals from a Jack Wood brace and Oliver Mann.
White Notley FC recovered some lost momentum at second place Colne Athletic FC where they secured a point in a 2-2 draw through goals from Kane Dobrowolski and Regan Farley-Hearn. Colne’s scorers were Dan Bradley and Aran Yarwood making his debut. Notley salvaged the point in the 95th minute with a controversial penalty. Meanwhile, fourth place West Bergholt FC were held by visiting Hatfield Peverel FC where four goals were shared.
Elsewhere, Little Oakley FC Reserves enjoyed a fine win at the Memorial ground defeating Sudbury Sports FC 3-0. Rob Pratt hit two and Jamie Eades the third. In contrast Felixstowe & Walton United Fc Reserves lost their 7th game from eight at Tiptree Heath FC going down 3-1. Tiptree’s marksmen were Joe Chester, Charlie Green and substitute Billy Coe, whilst for “Felixstowe”, Declan Cameron scored the consolation, but Rhys Henry received a straight red.
Also, there was no joy for Flitch United FC still seeking their first league win, when narrowly going down to visiting Stanway Pegasus FC 2-1 who with games in hand have moved menacingly into fifth position.
In the Suffolk Senior Cup, Brantham Athletic FC Reserves bowed out in Round 1 to Ipswich based Ransomes, losing 4-3 on penalties. It was 2-2 after regular time, but the visitors edged there way through to the next round.
In the Suffolk Primary Cup another Ipswich side Bramford United FC defeated Cavendish FC 2-1.
In the First Division, leaders Belle Vue Social were made to fight to maintain their 100% record at the summit, with a 2-1 win at struggling Boxted Lodgers FC whose scorer was Paul Goddard.
The chasing pack kept up the pressure that saw Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves sweep past Gosfield United FC 5-1 and Tiptree Jobserve FC edge out Hedinghams United FC 3-2 at Lawn Meadow to remain second and third respectively, sadly Toby Booty suffered a broken leg.
The surprise was the success of Silver End United FC who beat visiting Dunmow Town FC 2-1 to move into 4th position, whilst FC Clacton Reserves redeemed themselves following last week’s defeat by the leaders to beat Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves 3-1 on the road with goals from Charlie Thompson and two from Andreas Antoniou-Garcia.
In the second division, Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves have opened up a seven-point gap over second place Cavendish FC who was in cup action. The narrow 2-1 win at Great Bentley FC “A” was secured through a goal each from Elliot Fay and Rocha Fosker, whilst Joseph Watt was shown a straight red by referee Mr Andrew Morton.
Rowhedge FC continue to make progress with a timely 2-0 victory over Oyster FC with goals from Brendan Horne and substitute Kian Evans.
Lawford Lads FC Reserves moved into fourth place with a decent win over Gas Recreation FC Reserves. The 3-0 victory saw goals from Daniel Edwards, Ross Purll and Jamie Reid.
St. Osyth FC gained their first win of the season beating basement dwellers Harwich Rangers FC 3-0. Mathew McGowan-Harvey hit two and Brett Hawkins completed the scoring.
Division Three leaders, Thorpe Athletic FC comfortably beat Colne Athletic FC Reserves 3-0. The Division’s top scorer Bailey Barnard helped himself to a brace whilst James Shuttlewood added the third.
Barnston AFC Reserves struck ten at home to Little Clacton FC to remain three points behind the leaders. It was a triumphant day for four goal hero Ryan Johnson who has now netted 13 goals thus far this season. Lee Jarvis-Brown hit two whilst the remaining scorers were Adam Chappell, Rees Cook, James McLaughlin, and Nathan Waterfield.
Another player at the peak of his powers is Liam Whittaker who scored all four of Wormingford Wanderers FC goals away at Langham Lodgers FC without reply.
