Essex & Suffolk Round Up 5th December 2020.
A truncated Border League program returned Saturday with 21 games played from the original scheduled 41 matches with the weather and COVID regulations taking its toll.
There were six matches played in the Premier Division most of which were of significance.
Colne Athletic FC were involved in a seven-goal thriller at Strangers Corner to maintain there ongoing challenge with Gas Recreation FC. It was Scott Yearling who took the honours with a timely hat trick to bring his tally to seven for the season with Luke Rogers completing the scoring for the home side.
Colne remain a point behind the leaders on level games played.
As for ‘Gas’ they remain in pole position following their 3-1 victory at the Memorial ground beating Little Oakley fc Reserves. Shane Goodyear maintained his form in front of goal by grabbing two whilst Marcel Headlam added a third.
The Premier Division remains very competitive and Great Bentley FC maintained their push for honours with a narrow 3-2 win on The Green against visiting West Bergholt FC. They moved into third place, five points behind the leaders, but have two games in hand having lost one of their nine matches played. On target were Keiron Baker, Joseph Hurd and Jake Vaughan.
In contrast Stanway Pegasus FC suffered their second league defeat at the School, and lost ground dropping to fourth, beaten by Sudbury Sports FC 2-0. Josh Stokes struck the goals for the Academy side whilst Bradley Byrne saw red!
At Ford Lane, Alresford Colne Rangers FC continue to disappoint recording their fifth defeat at the hands of Tiptree Heath FC who moved to fifth in the table leapfrogging West Bergholt FC and White Notley FC whose match at Flitch United FC was one the casualties.
The Tiptree scorers were Joe Chester, Cameron Ward and substitute Harry Hazell.
The remaining Premier match saw an exciting affair at The Brantham Leisure Centre where ‘Athletic Reserves’ and Felixstowe & Walton United FC Reserves shared six goals for each to gain a welcome point.
For Felixstowe it was a point that hauled them off the bottom with only their fourth point, whilst Brantham Athletic FC Reserves eased themselves into a more respectable 13th place.
In the First Division there was a shock result that saw Belle Vue Social FC lose their 100% record at the Feering Community Centre where Coggeshall United FC Reserves inflicted a 2-1 defeat. David Weir scored the consolation goal.
In consequence, Silver End FC took advantage at the Village Hall by moving into second place jointly on twenty-one points with Belle Vue Social FC through Connor Holland’s solitary strike. An in-disciplined visiting side had Daniel Findlay and Ross Nash red carded by referee Mr Nathan Tansley.
Stanway Pegasus FC Reserves proved far too strong for Hedinghams United FC at Lawn Meadow winning 5-1 where substitute Will Howe scored twice supported by George Barren, Luke Payne and Robert Taylor.
In Division Two at School Lane, Lawford Lads FC Reserves beat Brantham Athletic FC “A” 2-1 with goals from Jamie Reid and Daniel Edwards who also picked up two yellow cards. ‘The Lads’ moved into second place seven points behind leaders Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves, who did not play, with two games in hand.
In Division Three, Liam Smith and Josh Lucas struck two for Felsted Rovers AFC, but were beaten by new leaders Sporting Rebels FC 3-2 whose goals were scored by Alfie Towsey (two) and Jason Powell.
Ramsey & Mistley United FC took closer order moving into fourth place two points behind the leaders with an 8-0 thrashing of Hedingham United FC Reserves with four goals from Christopher Stratton and two from Ben Allington, whilst an own goal and an eighth from Richard Thomas Traynor completed the demotion.
In Division Four, newcomers Frinton & Walton FC stretched their 100% record to nine straight wins beating plucky Stillwaters FC, 14-1.
