Essex & Suffolk Border league Round Up 12th December 2020.
In the Essex Premier Cup there were mixed fortunes for Border League sides in Round Two of the competition. Four sides progressed whilst there was a shock for Gas Recreation FC beaten at Colne Athletic FC 3-2.
Perhaps not a complete surprise, as “Colne” are second in the Premier Division to Gas. However, the Bromley Road boys are renowned cup fighters and an early exit in the competition will be a disappointment to fans.
Great Bentley FC were good winners over Corinthians FC, from the Essex Olympian League Division Two who had only been beaten once in the league, but by ‘Bentley’s’ standards the win was anticipated.
Lawford Lads FC were less fortunate going down 3-1 to Halstead Town FC Reserves, whilst White Notley FC also succumbed to visitors Ongar Town FC from the Olympian League First Division, which they lead with an unbeaten record. However, the 4-2 defeat will represent another disappointment for the ESBFL.
It is into round three for Tiptree Heath FC who travelled to Pitsea and beat Hashtag FC Reserves from the Essex Senior League Reserve Division romping home 5-2.
In the other all Border League tie, Stanway Pegasus FC won on the road beating West Bergholt FC 3-0.
There remain a number of outstanding second round ties.
In the Premier Division, Sudbury Sports FC thrashed Alresford Colne Rangers FC at Kings Marsh 7-1. Josh Stokes helped himself to a hat trick whilst the remaining goals came from Joshua Ambrose, Samuel Cooke, Luke Hipkin and Jack Palmer. The Suffolk side move into 8th place with games in hand,
Brantham Athletic FC Reserves picked up a useful point at Earls Colne FC in a 2-2 draw, where Jake Horlock and Jamie Hudson got the goals for the home team.
Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves lost 4-3 to visiting Hatfield Peverel FC at Dellwood Avenue. Paul Grimsey, Daniel Harding, Harry Page and Adebolu Adeyemi were the visiting marksmen. (see match report)
In the remaining Premier match Barnston AFC did well at Dedham Old Boys FC returning home with a 2-0 win with goals from Harry Groves.
In Division One, Dunmow Town FC struggled big time to beat understrength Hedinghams United FC 2-1 at Braintree Town’s ground. ‘United’ have lost eight of their ten league matches so all credit to them in putting in a fighting display, with their Manager, Sam White in goal, against the First Divisions new boys whose aspirations are high. They trailed at half time, but drew level through Barrie Pullinger, but were unable to hang on.
At the Rush Green Sports Centre, FC Clacton Reserves beat Gosfield United FC 4-1 with two goals from Andres Antoniou-Garcia bringing his tally to ten, and further goals from Anthony Simon and Lyndon Bramhall completed the scoring.
In Division Two, Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves maintained their seven-point gap over second placed Cavendish FC. The Royal Oak side beat Gas Recreation FC Reserves at Bromley Road 5-3, whilst Cavendish FC were 3-2 winners at Brightlingsea Town FC.
Hatfield Peverel FC Reserves completed a good day for the club with a 3-0 win at the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground over Tiptree Jobserve FC Reserves where Martyn Robinson struck a hat trick.
Rowhedge FC continued there decent season’s progress with a solitary goal win over Great Bentley FC Reserves by courtesy of Thomas Hughes, whilst their Thomas Lepage had an early bath.
Oyster FC picked up the points, and their first win, with two goals from Danny Clements at St Osyth FC whose scorer was Mathew McGowan-Harvey. Tollesbury FC leapfrogged Lawford Lads FC Reserves with a 6-1 win and now occupy third spot in the table, a first league defeat for “Lawford”.
In Division Three, Thorpe Athletic FC continue at the summit with a narrow 3-2 win over Colne Athletic FC Reserves with a brace from substitute James Shuttlewood, and a third from Bailey Barnard.
In Division Four a big win for third place Gosfield United FC Reserves beating plucky Parkeston Welfare Care Park FC 10-2. A personal triumph for Luke Jones who hit the net five times supported with a brace from William Drew and further goals from Graham Luxford and Josh Gazmuri-Symmes.
In the Suffolk Primary Cup a fine win for Brantham Athletic FC “A” beating AFC Wanderers 2-1.
