Essex & Suffolk Border League Round – Up 14th August 2021.
There was a full mid-week program in the Premier Division of the Essex & Suffolk Border League that produced some significant results.
Perhaps notably the most surprising was the ease of Stanway Pegasus defeating Colne Athletic with a 6-1 win through goals from Max Booth, Samir Rhaiti, Aidan Sansom, Kane Elliott and a brace from Qazzim Folawiyo. Jake Vaughan replied for the visitors.
Furthermore, the win of Chelmsford City Reserves at West Bergholt rather demonstrated the strength of the City squad with a convincing 3-0 win against a decent ‘Bergholt side. The experienced Adam Morgan scored twice and a made a third and produced a level of performance way and beyond the normal expectations at this level. The third goal was scored by joint leading league scorer Reggie Gregory.
Gas Recreation beat Sudbury Sports 3-2 whilst Alresford Colne Rangers scored a second win with a comfortable victory over Lawford Lads and Dunmow Town beat visiting White Notley 4-0.
On Friday night Chelmsford City Reserves were on the rampage with a seven-goal thrashing of Dunmow Town at Melbourne Park. Freddie Hockey hit a hat-trick, Reggie Gregory struck another two whilst Alfie Gilby and Dominic Forbes completed the rout.
Also, on Friday, Sudbury Sports following two defeats beat struggling Felixstowe & Walton U23s 3-0 at the Kings Marsh stadium with goals from James Eveleigh, Mathew Price and Brae Smith.
In Saturday’s league program the top two fought out a close encounter with Stanway Pegasus claiming the spoils at Easter Road defeating a plucky Barnston side with a 78th minute penalty through man’ of the match’ Josh Dillon. This was a more subdued performance by ‘Pegasus, but sufficient to take them to the summit and will be clearly fancied contenders for honours.
Two other sides remain unbeaten as Alresford Colne Rangers were held at Ford Lane by previous leaders Tiptree Heath. Ryan Lewis opened the scoring for ‘Rangers’ whilst Lee Martin responded for the visitors.
Hatfield Peverel opened there account following two opening defeats with goals from Cosmin Rotoru and Ryan Whiteman to secure a 2-0 win at White Notley who suffered their third consecutive loss.
However, the big winners of the day were Kieron Shelley’s West Bergholt who with joint manager Ryan Lines inflicted an overwhelming 10-0 victory at Dedham Old Boys that compensated for ‘Bergholt’s mid week loss. The new signings clearly made an impact at the Duchy Field. The marksmen were Connor Davison, Lee Townrow, Michael Schofield a brace from each of Aston Firkins and Lewis Blanchett and a hat trick from Karl Andrade.
Brantham Reserves second win in five days saw them move to a healthy seventh place with a fine 3-0 success at Little Oakley Reserves, whilst Gas Recreation were held at home by Earls Colne in a creditable 1-1 draw for the visitors recording there second drawn game. Harry Hewes scored the home goal whilst substitute Wesley Assan salvaged the point.
In the First Division Cressing United overcame FC Clacton Reserves 4-2 culminating in both sides on three points after their opening two matches. Daniel Miller and Luke Thorndyke each struck twice for the home side and Tye Perry and Sean Flanders replying for Clacton.
Stanway Rovers U23s top the table following 6-1 victory over travelling Cavendish whilst Tiptree Jobserve beat Gosfield United 4-2.
In Division Two, Brightlingsea Town have announced themselves as strong contenders having scored 21 goals from there opening two games. A 15-1 drubbing at Cowley Park against luckless St Osyth places them firmly top of the table followed by Hatfield Peverel Reserves who beat promoted Frinton & Walton Reserves 2-1.
