There were a few surprise results last Saturday, in Division Three unbeaten Great Bentley “A” beat previously unbeaten leaders, Tiptree Jobserve, and Elmstead Market also lost their first league game against Mersea Island, Elmstead Market Reserves won their second consecutive match, which points total, already surpasses their final playing record from last season! In the Knock-Out Cup, second placed, Gosfield United from Division One lost by a solitary goal against West Bergholt, who are second in Division Two.

Division Four had six matches, leaders, Frinton & Walton Reserves scored four against Rayne, Elmstead Reserves scored five (three for Gardner) against West Bergholt Reserves, Bradfield Rovers hit six (five for Farthing), against Stanway Rovers EVL Development and Hedinghams United Reserves topped those scores with nine against Tendring District who slip to bottom place on goal difference. Ramsey & Mistley stay third after beating Prettygate Reserves and second placed Roman Rovers “A” drew against Tollesbury.

In Division Three, with Tiptree Jobserve losing, Harwich & Parkston “A” kept up the pressure when scoring five against second bottom, Brooklands, Great Bentley “A”, are the threat here, unbeaten with games in hand over the top two, elsewhere, Boxted Lodgers beat Oyster and Silver End Reserves beat Stillwaters.

Spare a thought for White Notley Reserves, as with only nine players they travelled to Wormingford Wanderers, a ten-nil thrashing followed but well done for turning up, Great Bradfords remain bottom despite getting a point against Cressing United Reserves. Springfield beat Cavendish but Boxford Rovers drop to second bottom after losing against previous incumbents, Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves for whom it was their first win of the season.

Division One leaders, The Rodings & Little Waltham, dropped two points against Frinton & Walton, Clacton Regent beat Roman Rovers to stay third, Prettygate, stay fourth after scoring five (three for Boyle), against bottom team Lawford Lads. Tavern, stay fifth when beating Hatfield Peverel Reserves and inconsistent Dovercourt Rovers moved up to seventh, above Hedinghams United whom they beat.

The question is, who is going to challenge East Thurrock Community in the Premier Division, they won away against Belle Vue Social, second placed Great Bentley bounced back from last week’s defeat to beat fourth placed Hatfield Peverel, Springfield beat Thorpe Athletic to stay third, but Sudbury Sports move up two places after beating Earls Colne. Gas Recreation, under new management, went nap against struggling Alresford Colne Rangers, Cressing United beat AFC Pegasus Colchester and Dedham Old Boys won against second bottom, White Notley.

There were two matches in the Reserve Knock-Out Cup, Gas Recreation Reserves beat Roman Rovers Reserves and Great Bentley Reserves eased their way into the semi-finals when hitting seven (four for Foran), against Wormingford Wanderers Reserves, that completed a fine Saturday for Great Bentley whose three teams all won.

Finally, Tiptree Heath lost out to Catholic United, previous winners of Essex Premier Cup.
