Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 2nd October 2021.
Alfie Gilbey’s seventh goal of the season was good enough at School Lane enabling table toppers Chelmsford City FC Reserves to continue their impressive sequence of wins and remain a point clear of the champions ‘elect’ Stanway Pegasus FC but have played three games more.
As for Lawford Lads FC they seemingly put in a strong performance, but nevertheless trail in bottom place with six points from ten games played.
So, who can stop ‘Pegasus’? This juggernaut appears to have virtually wrapped up the league already, and we are just in October. They continued their all, conquering ways with a 6-0 thrashing of Felixstowe & Walton FC, U23s at Dellwood Avenue. Eleven straight wins shows the character of the Club and determination of its players, and strength of its management. Who will present a challenge?
They remain in second place a point behind the leaders and six, clear of third placed West Bergholt FC, with a game in hand. Thereafter the next side is Gas Recreation FC trailing in fourth by thirteen points!
Colne Athletic FC won handsomely over visitors Sudbury Sports FC at Strangers Corner, whilst West Bergholt FC were held at the Lorkin Daniel Field in a 1-1 draw against Alresford Colne Rangers FC.
Earls Colne FC had a fine 2-1 win at the Recreation Ground against a decent Tiptree Heath FC side with goals from Jack Charnock and Connor Randall, and White Notley FC and Brantham Athletic FC Reserves fought out a 2-2 draw down at Oak Farm, the home scorers being Regan Farley-Hearn and Abiola Makanjuola.
Little Oakley FC Reserves picked up maximum points with a ‘massive’ 3-1 win over visiting Gas Recreation FC at the Memorial Ground with goals from Callum Green, Tom Dunningham and Dan Edwards and are comfortably in 12th place. In the First Division, the Match of the Day was at Mile End Sports Ground where Belle Vue Social FC maintained their impressive start by beating Stanway Rovers FC, U23s 2-0, a seventh straight success, that sees them replace ‘Rovers’ at the top, who in the process were losing there unbeaten tag. David Weir and Samuel Ajayi were on target.
Silver End FC moved into third place albeit held at home by FC Clacton Reserves in a 2-2 draw with goals from Mitchell Brown and Dan Gage, whilst Fletcher Hanna and Ben O’Hara were the visitor’s marksmen.
Gosfield United FC enjoyed a fine win 3-0 victory at Coggeshall United FC Reserves with goals from Brady Catterwell and Andrew Turner to move into a comfortable mid table position.
Mersea Island FC struggling in the lower reaches of the division surrendered a two goal, interval lead before finally being held 2-2 by West Bergholt FC Reserves. Lewis Ayton scored the goals. Robert Rusu hit two for Cressing United FC where they beat Shrub End United FC at Mile End Sports Ground 2-0.
Division Two, hot favourites Brightlingsea Town FC continued their fine run of form with a strong 5-1 win over Rowhedge FC to take them six points clear of second place Thorpe Athletic FC. Kieron Baker hit two taking his tally to nine for the season, whilst player manager Ricky Griggs was on target, his ninth of the season too. Liam Close and Zachery Taylor completed the scoring. The visitor’s goal came from Thomas Hughes.
The Third Division pacesetters are Wormingford Wanderers FC whose 4-0 win away to Colne Athletic FC Reserves maintains their 100% record.
In Division Four Ramsey & Mistley FC Reserves, Stillwaters FC and FC Clacton ‘A’ each have ten points at the top.
