Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 16th October 2021.
There were only five Premier Division league matches as five of our clubs were engaged in the Essex County Premier Cup, sponsored by BBS Essex.
With Chelmsford City FC Reserves and Stanway Pegasus FC not in league action it was an opportunity for West Bergholt FC to take closer order, and they did so in emphatic style beating Little Oakley FC Reserves at the Memorial Ground 6-0.
Indeed, it is an impressive sequence of results for ‘Bergholt’ who since losing to Chelmsford City FC Reserves in an early season mid week match, have gone from ‘strength to strength’ and are now third in the table, a point behind ‘City’, each having played fourteen games.
The ‘Bergholt’ strike force was again dominant with Lewis Blanchett hitting a hat trick, and the league’s top scorer Karl Andrade helping himself to two more with Aaron Donaldson completing the rout.
However, Stanway Pegasus FC, remain in second spot on level points with the leaders, but with two games in hand.
Barnston AFC moved into fourth spot with a narrow 3-2 home win against bottom side Lawford Lads FC, whilst Sudbury Sports FC had a good win at Dedham Old Boys FC. A brace from Colby Hillyard and one each from Louie Arnold and Brae Smith gave ‘Sports’ a welcome lift in what has been an indifferent season thus far.
Earls Colne FC made it three successive wins beating struggling Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s 7-0 to climb to 12th in the table. The goals were shared between Jamie Hudson, Charlie Baker, Harry Salter and new signing Luis Welton with the visitors ending with en players!
In the remaining Premier Division match Hatfield Peverel FC and Brantham Athletic FC Reserves fought out a 3-3 draw at the Keith Bigden Memorial Ground. An important point for the home side as they move four points clear of the relegation places, whilst “Brantham” are enjoying a much improved, season and currently are in 6th spot.
In the Essex County Premier Cup there Alresford Colne Rangers FC, Dunmow Town FC, Tiptree Heath FC and Colne Athletic FC, who progressed, as did Stanway Pegasus FC, a walk-over Gas Recreation FC but White Notley went out.
“Alresford” gained a creditable 2-0 win over Witham Town FC Reserves whilst Dunmow Town FC did well at Hashtag United FC Reserves winning 2-1. Both wins were against teams from the Thurlow Nunn North Reserve Division where both the losing sides occupied 1st and 2nd places.
Tiptree Heath FC gained a resounding 6-1 win over visiting Leyton Royal FC from the Essex Alliance League and Colne Athletic FC beat Essex Olympian side Kelvedon Hatch FC 3-0 ensuring five of our sides move into the next round.
In the First Division Belle Vue Social FC maintained their 100% record with a narrow victory at Mile End Sports Ground over Alresford Colne Rangers FC Reserves 3-2. Its now eight straight wins that secures a five-point lead over second place Stanway Rovers FC U23s who were inactive.
Silver End FC lost ground, beaten 2-0 by Tiptree Jobserve FC at home and West Bergholt FC Reserves had a good home 2-0 win over visiting Harwich & Parkeston FC Reserves.
In Division Two with leaders Brightlingsea Town FC inactive, there was a chance for second place Thorpe Athletic FC to make up some ground on the leaders, but they were held by visiting Kelvedon Social FC with both sides sharing four goals.
Rowhedge FC went on a goal spree hammering poor Lawford Lads FC Reserves at the Chase 9-0, with two each from Thomas Hughes, Luke Payne, Mayhew Randall and one each from Mathew Boyle, Thomas Lepage and Kian Evans.
In Division Three, Wormingford Wanderers FC continued their winning ways with a fifth straight success at home beating Dovercourt Rovers FC 2-1 with their marksmen being Brett Angell and Ben Fowler.
