Essex & Suffolk Border League Round Up 25th September 2021.
There were four Premier mid-week fixtures that saw Chelmsford City FC Reserves maintain their top spot and indeed are still holding sway following Saturday results.
At Melbourne Park, Gas Recreation FC were the visitors, and they were thrashed 7-0 and arguably surrendered any hope of retaining the title.
Alfie Gilbey scored a fine hat-trick, and the remaining goals came from Luke Deslandes, Freddie Hockey, Marc Holland and Guy Norton.
Then on Saturday they picked up another three points at Colne Athletic FC with a convincing 4-0 win with again Luke Deslandes amongst the goals with two and Finn Wilkes and an own goal completed the scoring.
Dunmow Town FC also won in the mid-week clash at home to Tiptree Heath FC, 3-1 with goals from Alex Yearwood, Eusebio Da Silva Ca and Gary Cohen. Morley Dialu replied whilst Cameron Pennick picked up two yellow cards. Dunmow Town FC also picked up three points at Earls Colne FC with a solitary goal victory that leaves them 6th in the table whilst ‘Colne’ languish in 16th spot.
Felixstowe & Walton FC U23s revived there season with a strong performance at Dellwood Avenue on Wednesday night beating Dedham Old Boys FC 5-2. Tommy Smith helped himself to a brace, with Miles Powell and Benjamin Pratt completing the scoring.
A 2-2 draw at home to Hatfield Peverel FC on Saturday marginally helped the “Felixstowe” cause that lifted them off the bottom of the table.
West Bergholt FC were also in mid-week action and were successful at the Leisure Centre beating Brantham Athletic FC Reserves 2-0 with substitute Luke Payne grabbing the goals. However, they slipped up at Sudbury Sports FC on Saturday securing a 1-1 draw, but maintain their third spot in the table, the “Sudbury” scorer was Jamie Bennett.
It was a change of fortune at Bromley Road on Saturday as ‘Gas’ comfortably won 4 -0 against visiting Dedham Old Boys FC to take fourth place. Harry Hewes struck twice with Jack Gregory and Emanuel Kouassi completing the tally.
The main news surrounds the continual exploits of leaders Stanway Pegasus FC who faced a tricky match at Oak Farm, but beat White Notley FC, 3-1. This was there tenth consecutive win in the league, that sees them a point behind Chelmsford City FC Reserves with three games in hand.
This success has been achieved, in no small way, by the influence of UEFA ‘B’ Coach Rosi Webb who is now very much part of the management team with Ian Booth. Her input has been instrumental in the transformation of the side.
Tiptree Heath FC beat visiting Alresford Colne Rangers FC, 4-2 with a brace from Kyle Mason, Jack Tollhurst and Joe Chester. Both sides are comfortably positioned in mid table.
It was the first round of the Essex Junior Cup that embraced several of our sides. FC Clacton Reserves progressed through to round two defeating Frinton & Walton FC Reserves 5-2. Liam Condon hit two and Rafferty Jordon, Kai Ridgeon and Wandi Siwale ensured the safe passage through. Other sides to progress included Great Bentley FC, Wormingford Wanderers FC, Cressing United FC, high flying Belle Vue Social FC, Mersea Island FC and Kelvedon Social FC who play their Reserve team in the next round!
There was a creditable win for Brightlingsea Town FC, who, after extra time beat Heybridge Swifts U23s 3-2.
In Division Two, second place Thorpe Athletic FC were surprisingly beaten by Tiptree Jobserve FC Reserves, at home 3-2, whilst Hatfield Peverel FC Reserves got the better of visiting Tollesbury FC, 5-3.
In Division Four there was a notable success for Bradfield Rovers FC who hit ten past bottom side Mersea Island FC Reserves without reply. John Campany.
