ESSEX & SUFFOLK BORDER FOOTBALL LEAGUE

WEEKLY ROUND-UP for 04/02/2023

The ESBFL had an almost full set of matches completed last weekend, Silver End United succumbed to a team called Something For Nothing, in the Essex Junior Cup and in the only other Reserve Cup fixture Great Bentley Reserves overcame local rivals Alresford Colne Rangers Reserves.

Dunmow Town stay top of the Premier Division despite dropping points on the road at Brantham Athletic Reserves who remain in fourth, this allowed Tiptree Heath to move within a point after a solitary goal victory over third placed Earls Colne. An entertaining match at Hullbridge saw fifth placed Belle Vue Social carve out a victory over Chelmsford City Reserves. The remaining five games in the top flight were all away wins for Alresford Colne Rangers, Stanway Rovers U23’s, three goals for Thomas, Sudbury Sports, White Notley and Barnston which leaves, West Bergholt, Lawford Lads and Harwich & Parkeston Reserves beginning to be cast adrift at the bottom.

There were five games in Division One, four were draw’s with only leaders Brightlingsea Town getting a win at third placed Tiptree Jobserve.

Dovercourt Rovers, who beat Tiptree Jobserve Reserves, opened up a twenty-one point gap over chasing Tavern who lost at Wormingford Wanderers, but Tavern and Boxted Lodgers do have four games in hand.

Division Three saw another four drawn matches with only bottom team Brantham Athletic “A” securing a win over Sporting Rebels who drop to third bottom as Great Bradford picked up a point against Barnston Reserves. The big clash in this Division saw top team Bradfield Rovers play out a scoreless draw against second placed Gas Recreation who do have games in hand.

With Roman Rovers dropping points against Kelvedon Social, high scoring, High Roding moved further ahead after demolishing Wormingford Wanders Reserves, scoring eight goals without reply, Barnsley scoring four. There were also victories for Stillwaters, Cavendish Reserves, Lawford Lads Reserves and Tendring District.

Kelvedon Social “A” were the only team to score away goals in Division Five but still lost to third placed Boxford Rovers where goal machine Egglestone scored all five to bring his season total to thirty-five from just thirteen games! Second placed Oyster went “nap” against Ashington Stanley, Roman Rovers Reserve went one better, three for Jones, against Mersea Island Reserves whilst Bradfield Rovers Reserves, hit eight, three for Whiting, against bottom team, Ramsey & Mistley Reserves, who have now conceded a century of goals!
